Summary of Duties:


Under the direction of the Director, Community Programs, the Elders' Activity Coordinator provides safe and culturally appropriate services and activities to Lil'wat Nation elders.

The purpose is to facilitate improving or maintaining the spiritual, physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being of the community elders, including those with special needs, through meaningful activities, whilst maintaining their independence, choice and dignity.


Key Deliverables and Expectations:


  • Administer programs including activity scheduling, event planning, transportation coordination, record keeping.
  • Organize cultural, social, and recreational activities and distribute a monthly schedule of activities, as well as regular luncheons and other social gatherings.
  • Organize annual participation in the Annual Elder's Gathering;
  • Work with Department of Infrastructure to support the construction of an elder's gathering place
  • Implement applicable portions of the Elder's Need Assessment
  • Coordinate with Lil'wat Health and Healing the use of elders' van to enable users to attend appointments, programs, etc.
  • Organize opportunities for the elderly to interact with the children and youth of the community to foster mutual respect and understanding.
  • Maintain all files, records and reports of activities.
  • Act as a liaison and collaborate with internal and external partners to optimize services and programs available to elders.
  • Research funding sources and write proposals to cover the costs of attending events, gatherings, tours, etc.
  • Create culturally appropriate educational resources around lifestyle awareness.
  • Able to safely assess, manage and provide first aid if required, in emergent situations.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:


  • Minimum of high school education. Postsecondary education in Social Services, Recreation, Event Planning Senior Living Management or another relevant program is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Level One First Aid and CPR Training.
  • Previous experience with event planning or activity coordinator is considered an asset. Particularly with an emphasis on elders or First Nations.
  • Strong understanding and participation in Lil'wat Nation culture and traditions.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to be sensitive to the needs, expectations and opinions of clients.
  • Good skills in conflict resolution, communication, organization, attention to detail and time management.
  • Can establish an open, trusting, nonjudgmental relationship with clients while keeping safety at the forefront.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly professional and confidential in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
  • Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings as needed for special events and programs.
