Position Summary


Centennial College's Office of Policies is looking for an experienced Policy Analyst to develop and implement college-wide policies and key directional documents in support Centennial's mission, vision, values, regulatory mandates, and strategic objectives.

The Policy Analyst will support policy development in response to organizational priorities and legislative changes while making recommendations for necessary policy revisions through various activities including research and analysis, data gathering and interpretation, facilitating focus groups, and presenting report findings.

The incumbent will implement a cycle for policy review and revision to ensure ongoing compliance.

The Policy Analyst will work with College stakeholders to identify policy needs and policies that govern colleges and post-secondary education in Ontario.


Responsibilities

  • Acts as project manager for the college's policy development process including planning, identifying, and prioritizing policies that need to be developed and/or reviewed
  • Develop critical paths to identify key activities and determine timelines for policy development projects
  • Investigates and recommends tools and conventions to improve efficiency and efficacy of policy development/review process
  • Works with college stakeholders to provide technical expertise and guidance on policy development process and principles. Clarifies policy related issues, generates and analyses policy options and recommends various courses of action
  • Collaborates with a range of partners and learning providers to ensure sensitivity to our College's sociocultural and equity needs are met
  • Conducts extensive and comprehensive research, gathering data from secondary sources using library database systems, cataloguing systems, and the internet
  • Regularly monitors and reviews academic listserves to identify legislative changes with the potential to impact College policy environment; prepares briefings and recommendations
  • Identifies appropriate channels to communicate college policies, determines relevant information in new and revised policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines for different audiences
  • Plan, design, and implement research projects including determining appropriate research instruments to perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis and present findings to support institutional decision making
  • Designs and administers surveys, conducts interviews or facilitates focus groups—conducts ethical reviews as required
  • Interpret existing policies and cater the language to be consistent with Centennial standards and guidelines
  • Identifies appropriate channels to communicate college policies, determines relevant information in new and revised policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines for different audiences
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the Centre for Organizational Learning and Teaching in the program delivery through facilitation and training. Advise and interpret college policies, procedures and protocol to the college community

Qualifications/Experience

  • Four (4) year degree in public administration, public and/or regulatory policy, sociology, political science, communications, or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years' progressive experience in policy development, implementation, monitoring, and review of processes and records; including research, analysis and/or planning
  • Experience conducting research using secondary sources and grey literature and primary sources where applicable
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and evaluate policy options
  • Knowledge and experience with designing and implementing consultative research methodologies including, interviews, focus groups, online surveys etc.
  • Ability to interpret and synthesize information and data, draw inferences, and arrive at conclusions
