Description

Thyssen Mining is a full-service underground mining contractor with several projects in Canada and the US. Thyssen Mining is looking for a Mechanical Supervisor for a project near Sudbury, ON.

ROLE:


The primary role of the Mechanical Supervisor is to ensure that the work of the project progresses according to plan, completed to contractual standards, and follows strict adherence to Thyssen Mining policies and practices in achieving industry best practice standards and performance and ensure continuing promotion of a positive culture throughout the site and the company.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ensure that Thyssen Project Safety Management Plan and all Thyssen Mining policies and procedures are strictly followed. Ensure compliance with any additional local plans or procedures such as environmental, cultural, or social programs for all electrical projects activates and make safety a priority.
  • Ensure that in all phases of the project implementation, the quality of workmanship and finished product meets or exceeds the standards expected by the owner and Thyssen Mining.
  • Review and schedule manpower, equipment and supplies for satisfactory performance of the project, including placement of the necessary requisitions for the same.
  • Ensure all Thyssen Mining equipment meets statutory requirements and is maintained in a safe operational condition, and when necessary, ensure proper and timely reporting of deficiencies. As well, per the site safety plan, ensure all equipment that is deemed nonoperational is locked out and tagged with proper documentation attached.
  • Ensure all subordinates have the appropriate training, orientation, and experience to safely and efficiently perform their assigned tasks, subordinates are equipped with appropriate PPE, use the PPE as trained and directed.
  • Set and maintain work standards and outlining behavioural expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity. Promote support and facilitate teamwork and harmony between all crews and crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all project crews.
  • Ensure tasks assigned to work crew are completed as per design and on schedule. Ensure crew has the tools and materials necessary to complete tasks assigned.
  • Prioritize tasks associated with work schedule. Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks and assignments. Review and adjust specific workplace activities and task assignments to meet production schedules. Work with the crew to overcome work challenges.
  • Resolve, or if unable to resolve, report any scheduling conflicts with other crews to the appropriate persons. Coordinate work with other project groups to identify needs, requirements, interfaces, and work direction documents.
  • Attending and participating in site "Plan of the Day" schedule and coordination meetings. Conduct "safety toolbox" meetings to promote safe work practices. Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews as needed. Compete incident reports or other safety reports as directed.
  • Ensure time reports and or other shift reports are completed accurately and on time as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager and Thyssen Mining Management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • 35 years' experience would be an asset.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated positive safety behavior and safety leadership; demonstrated a high level of commitment to creating a safe working environment
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to mentor, guide and correct performance where needed
  • Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills are essential
  • Excellent computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to learn and gain knowledge and experience through training
  • Well organized and structured approach.
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
  • HDET trade certificate
  • Common core or hard rock underground supervisory program
  • Current first AID/ CPR certificate

Local hires preferred.

Positions will be based on a 7 on 7 off rotation working 11 hours a day.
