WHO WE ARE
Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill a full-time position of Mental Health Support Worker.


JOB PURPOSE


The key function of this position is to assist individuals who live with mental health concerns and would benefit from accessing a community outreach worker.

The goal of the Mental Health Support Worker is to connect individuals to appropriate mental health and addiction supports and provide short term case management through acquisition, retention, maintenance, and improvement of an individual's community living skills.

The Mental Health Support Worker will provide the services in an outreach and in-reach capacity.


Duties and Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Support individuals who live with mental health concerns and who live in or identify with Edmonton's inner city.
  • Build rapport and trust while focusing on the participants' quality of life, from there assist in the creation of shortterm individualized case plans with participant identifying service goals that relate to the stability of their mental health.
  • Refer program participants to appropriate counseling/support professionals to deal with mental health concerns and addictions services.
  • Support and consult with medical, psychiatric, and psychological professionals to ensure maintenance of medication regimes and clarification of issues that arise.
  • Be the first contact person for Bissell Centre staff when a participant is having a crisis due to a mental illness.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining appropriate mechanisms for assessment, service plan development and service delivery.

General and Administrative

  • Maintain accurate and uptodate case notes using ETO, updating program information, and critical incident reports within established time standards.
  • Provide latest program information, update statistics and good news stories on time and as required.
  • Submit all program receipts and mileage claims in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in supervision and community meetings.
  • Attend the biweekly caseload review meeting with the Mental Health department.
  • Participate in developmental reviews.
  • Provide in reach support for participants in the community space.
  • Participate in monthly safety walks.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:


  • Degree or Diploma in Social Science or related discipline
  • Minimum of oneyear related employment experience e.g., highrisk populations, mental health experience
  • Alberta Class 5 License, and a vehicle

Education and Experience:


  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, result oriented, good time management, strong organizational, problemsolving and advocacy skills.
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness, and Edmonton's urban core
  • Experience with providing individual and group support services.
  • Ability to establish rapport and trust with the participants.
  • Strong ability to advocate.
  • Ability to be selfdirected and work well within a team.

Conditions of Work:


Some evening and weekend work may be required:

  • In reach work in the community space required.
