Reporting to the Manager, System Design and Connections , the incumbent is responsible for managing the design of Elexicon Distribution Overhead and Underground System Plant related to capital construction projects, including but not limited to, coordination, project planning, approvals, procurement of materials, scheduling, installation, energization etc. while ensuring quality and timeliness targets are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PEOPLE AND TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP

• Responsible for the safety, productivity, coaching and development of the team.
• Responsible for achieving the planned design attainment dates specified in the Capital Execution Work Program (EWP), through achieving the Current Year/Future Year Design Readiness metrics.
• Provide day-to-day leadership by setting team goals, objectives, coaching, and handling human resource and work performance objectives.
• Lead and implement training and development programs to develop a highly skilled and self-sufficient System design team at Elexicon. Maintain competencies through training, coaching, peer learning, and special project assignments to achieve department and corporate objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accomplish multiple assignments and deliverables.
• Foster innovation and actively look for new ideas to improve the operation of the unit.
• Support the Manager in decision making through sound critical thinking and has demonstrated experience building and executing strategies.

SYSTEM DESIGN

• Plan, prepare, review, coordinate and manage the front-end and detail engineering design, procurement and delivery of Elexicon Energy construction projects through a team of Design Technicians and Technologists.
• Supervise, co-ordinate, and be responsible for the overall performance of the System design group to ensure the completion of assigned projects within approved budgets and timelines to meet organization goals.
• Prepare and monitor project schedules (using Gantt charts), workplans and budgets. Liaise with consultants and internal and external stakeholders throughout the project life cycle for timely availability of project deliverables.
• Provide support to Planning, Purchasing and Stores as well as the Program Delivery Group in RFP process for selection of consultants, vendors, equipment and material for System Design projects.
• Develop, monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPI) of his/her group to ensure optimal performance and work management.
• Review and approve work packages (including design, cost estimates, material lists, job issues, drawings and layouts) and obtain all necessary approvals required for construction as per existing codes/standards and Reg. 22/O4 requirements, prior to these being issued to the Program Delivery Group.
• Monitor progress of projects in terms of resources, work planning, and external services, respecting Elexicon-initiated and customer-requested needs and regulatory requirements,
• Provide support to and coordinate with Stations and P&C teams, contractors and System Control Centre, during construction and energization of System Design projects, including project close-outs.
• Manage the operation of his/her team in accordance with performance goals, objectives and targets, established.
• Review and propose new and/or modified designs for System Design projects , related installation standards, and equipment/ material specifications. Participate in the development of policies and procedures to improve workflows and project records.
• Provide back-up support to other System Design and Connections supervisors in managing their business units in the day-to-day operations, as needed.
• Prepare and submit annual budgets for his/her business unit. Monitor, review and report on expenditures through periodic financial forecasting.
• Other duties as assigned.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent organizational, project management, problem solving, and inter-personal skills.
• Familiarity with CEA, CSA, IHSA (was E&USA), ESA, IEEE, NETA, etc. as they relate to the Station design work and related distribution systems being worked on.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong commitment to providing customer service and team building.
• Experience in managing budgets.
• Knowledge of Regulation 22/O4
• Experience in design software such as SPIDA-Calc, AutoCAD etc.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and database management

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• OACETT certification in Electrical Technology or Engineering degree (A P.Eng. designation will be considered an asset)
• 5 to 7 years' experience in Electrical Design and Capital project execution in the electrical utility sector, with some emphasis on Station Projects (prior Supervisory experience will be considered an asset).
• Demonstrated project management capabilities (A PMP designation will be considered an asset)
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities related to engineering design/distribution system operations.
• A valid driver's license.
