This is a bargaining unit position
Scope
The Housing worker is responsible for supporting Ukrainian temporary residents who arrived to Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorisation for emergency travel (CUAET) in finding affordable and suitable accommodation, exercise their rights as tenants.
The worker is expected to work co-operatively with others in the community; demonstrate flexibility in organizing work; show a high degree of initiative, discernment, and resourcefulness; must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate thoughtfulness in decision-making and assist refugee families in housing and purchasing furniture.
Responsibilities;
- Conducts housing needs assessment and assist clients in making decisions regarding accommodation
- Conducts housing search in the GTA for clients
- Analyzes the housing rental market and client's needs and make recommendation that are within the budget
- Provides comprehensive information on housing choices and assist clients in selecting appropriate housing options
- If needed escorts clients to housing appointments and advocates with landlords on their behalf
- Secures appropriate and affordable housing for clients within a given timeframe
- Provides support to clients in negotiating and finalizing housing leases
- Informs clients about their responsibilities as tenants in order to maintain housing
- Recruits housing providers and maintains a data of housing providers
- Works with the community and stakeholders to encourage the development of new affordable housing units
- Conducts housing orientation sessions to ensure that clients understand rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords
- Increase accessibility by delivering services at itinerant public and community spaces in collaboration with other service providers
- Provides information and referral to external programs and services to meet the needs of each client/family
- Maintain and expand client's base through outreach, community penetration and itinerate functions
- Effectively track activities and provide accurate reporting to Program Manager
- Effectively track services in internal databases and provide accurate reporting for supervisor
- Achieves the targets set by program coordinator
- Actively participate in the professional development initiatives
- Other program operational duties assigned

Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Community or Social Work, Counselling or Education and two years' experience working with immigrant communities or a combination of experience and education that fulfills the requirements
- Knowledge of settlement and housing related services and resources in GTA
- Language Proficiency certificate identifying the fluency of English and target language skills (for ATIO members present the certificate of membership)
- Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting
- Excellent interpersonal, cross cultural, conflict resolution, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license is required, with access to a vehicle and a clean driving record
