Description

The Drop-In Crisis Counsellor will provide a broad range of holistic services to support, promote and empower individuals who are houseless, underserved, marginalized and living in social isolation with supports along their journey to address barriers to success.


The position will offer crisis and short-term counselling support using participant -centered, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, mental health and harm reduction approach.


Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis and shortterm counselling using solution focus theory, trauma informed care and harm reduction approach for Individual accessing the dropin program,
  • Provide dropin participants with intensive case management support linking participants to internal and external resources that build on their goals to succeed at securing sustainable housing, employment and overall wellbeing,
  • Provide ongoing case management, culturally sensitive advocacy, outreach, and support,
  • Connect participants with community resources that will help meet their needs including legal, medical, financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, health services, daycare, and other referral services,
  • Creates and facilitate workshop/educational group/activities on a weekly and monthly basis in coordination with Community Development Manager and Associate Executive Director
  • Attend staff meetings, interagency meetings and any other committee meetings.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing crisis support to individual who have been impacted by systemic barriers, mental health, and complex trauma,
  • Knowledge and experience using the following approach including antioppression, strengthbased, traumainformed and harm reduction model,
  • Experience in developing, organizing, and facilitating various psychoeducational and life skills groups,
  • Ability and skills to work with participants who may be oppositional and/or volatile, while at all times maintaining composure and behave in a professional and dignified manner,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluency in a second/third language an asset
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
A valid driver's licence is a requirement.

Work Hours:
The hours of work will be between 11am-7:00pm Mondays to Fridays; however, some weekends may be required as per the needs of the program
