Working as the Head Cashier, Billings and Collections (Cashier's Office)
We are searching for an individual who believes in working collaboratively, is able to seek solutions and inspire service and excellence in their team.
The Head Cashier reports to the reports to the Supervisor, Cashiers and Accounts Receivable ensuring that policy related to 'cash security' has the approval of the Manager, Billings & Collections, and ultimately the Director, Finance & Distribution Services.
The Head Cashier develops and updates a User/Procedures Manual - based on the history of cashiering at the University - but with the specific goal to ensure effective service delivery and optimum security in the handling of the University's cashier receivables.
This roles supervises fulltime or part time cashier(s) in all aspects of cashiering procedures and methodology at the University of Alberta.
The head cashier provides training, staff evaluations and support for a cashier & accounting assistant. During peak periods or absences the incumbent trains additional staff in processing and balancing in the cashier system.Duties
- Process deposits, electronic payment files, cash, cheques, and credit transactions for faculties and students.
- Prepare Start of the day openings for cashier and End of day closings, reconciliations, and reports.
- Oversight of daily security.
- Answer queries on cash activities.
- System development and upgrades
Qualifications
- Diploma and/or certificate in Business, Accounting, and/or Finance.
- Banking certificate or equivalent banking/cashier experience.
The individual must:
- Have business and supervisory experience.
- Be bondable and have a minimum of two years experience within the University of Alberta or a banking environment, where handling money, securing deposits and having the general oversight of a cashiering operation is the requirement.
- Have the ability to learn quickly and adapt to a constantly changing data processing and/or automated student and financial environment.
- Have the capability to make cashiering/banking decisions on behalf of the University community.
- Have a strong background knowledge of financial accounting, analysis, and PeopleSoft systems at the University.
- Understand the interdependencies of the various central administrative units (Registrar's Office, Shared Services, Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance).
- Have the ability to work in a team environment and serve the students' needs.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
Special Skills Required, the Individual must:
- Have a thorough understanding of University of Alberta policies and procedures related to cash handling and security.
- Have a thorough understanding of the Campus Solutions Cashier system and processing procedures.
- Understand the University of Alberta enrollment procedure.
- Understand student loan funding require
