Under the guidance and direction of the Coordinator, Camps and Inclusion, the Lead, Camp is responsible for providing leadership to camp staff team by training, coaching, motivating, monitoring performance and providing assistance with mid and end of summer performance appraisals to ensure staff are meeting the expectations of their role and achieving camp objectives while overseeing the day camp programs.

This position assists with scheduling, program planning, program delivery, training, dealing with participant behaviours, follow up with families and all associated customer services.

This position supervises On-site Leads, Camp Counsellors, Inclusion Facilitators, and campers at various locations throughout the Town of New Tecumseth.


How you contribute to our organization:

  • Plans, implements and supervises day camp programming for children in accordance with HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development where applicable.
  • Develops, coordinates and supports the day camp program plan across various locations.
  • Creates weekly activity newsletter and distributes to registered participants/families, and Client Services.
  • Arranges program logistics, which includes travel and facility arrangements for trips and/or special events.
  • Modifies camps programs, as required.
  • Assists with preparing and organizing staff training for new and returning staff
  • Creates and maintain a positive work environment and promote teamwork among the staff.
  • Secures equipment/supplies needed for program
  • Performs various customer service and administrative duties such as providing staff required paperwork, update and maintain camper information, monitoring registration, proposes staff schedules, safe arrival phone calls, and responding to parent inquires.
  • Enforces all rules and expectations, maintains order in the designated camp area as a proactive approach to accident prevention. Ensures safety of self, other staff and participants on site while carrying out activities.
  • Encourages regular headcounts of campers to ensure everyone is safe and in attendance. Requests numbers from staff periodically.
  • Provides crisis support and responds to behavioural issues in accordance with Behavioural Management Systems methodologies.

What you bring to the team:

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older by hire date.
  • Requires Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
  • Requires possession of and maintenance of a valid Ontario Driver's Licence, minimum class G2, and access to a personal vehicle to use for work purposes.
  • Ability to submit a clean Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.

  • Principles of Healthy Child Development and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Behaviour Management Systems is preferred.
  • Requires 23 years' experience working with children, preferably in a camp environment, with at least 6 months in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the daytoday structure of a day camp environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both written and verbal communication.
  • Commitment to providing a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity to the diverse needs of others.
  • Camp operations are 7:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Monday to Friday, from July
  • August 30.
  • Staff training will take place in the evenings and on weekends throughout June. Attendance at these training sessions is mandatory.
  • All staff are required to be available to work the Canada Day Event on July 1.

Wage:
$ $24.24, plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension


Hours: 35 hours per week from May 2- June 28
40 hours per week from July - August 30
28 hours per week from September - September 6


Location:
New Tecumseth Recreation Centre (7300 Industrial Pkwy, Alliston) and Tottenham Community Fitness Centre (139 Queen St. N., Tottenham)
