Asphalt Roller Operator - Winnipeg, Canada - The WhiteOut Group
Description
Whiteout Group Inc.is looking for a Full-Time, dedicated team players with asphalt roller experience in the construction industry, who are hardworking, take pride in their work, and have knowledge of industry safety standards, procedures and working as a team player with other to execute tasks as assigned.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Operate roller with attention to detail and to meet quality standards and specifications as instructed by crew foremen to ensure daily schedules are met.
- Operate roller to compact earth, subgrade, and subbase asphalt surfaces in the construction of parking lots, driveways, highways and streets.
- Drive machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt and subgrade to desired compaction and smoothness.
- Determine speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
- Distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.
- Monitor rolling temperature and work within temperatures best suit for material being laid.
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning and moving the machine in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
- Perform daily maintenance and adjustments to the equipment.
- Willingness to perform additional task or other positions as needed and instructed by the foreman.
- Ability to complete job on time with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship.
- Ability to operate or initiative to learn to operate other equipment required on an asphalt crew.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program, and encourage all employees and subcontractors to adopt safety as culture.
Experience & Requirements
- Experience in heavy construction is considered an asset.
- Asphalt roller operator experience minimum 2 years.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
- Be willing to work long hours and weekends when necessary.
- Communication skills: ability to communicate with supervisors, coworkers, contractors and the general public in a courteous, professional manner.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Use personal protective equipment is required.
- Valid class 5 driver's license with clean driving abstract is a must. Class 3/with air is an asset.
