  • Job SummaryThe BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) is a natural resource law enforcement agency that responds to medium, high and unknown risk situations that involve enforcement and public safety and require the use of specialized tools and training. The COS delivers a range of compliance and enforcement services, including investigations and enforcement actions in relation to 33 federal and provincial statutes.
The COS is divided into three key operational groups:
Provincial Operations, Provincial Investigations, and Headquarters Services. These groups work closely with other government stakeholders and partners in the natural resource sector.

The Sergeant - Provincial Operations leads, manages and coordinates provincial Conservation Officer services.

From public outreach and education, to best practices in the field, you are an accomplished officer in all aspects of the job.

Your extensive experience and sound judgement will help shape your supervisory role as an effective leader and role model.

This diverse and demanding position will see you work with internal and external stakeholders, engage with public and partner agencies, conduct media interviews on complex and sensitive issues, and more.

Reliable and fair, you can be counted on to make the right decisions and communicate them effectively.


Job Requirements:


  • Applied degree or technical diploma in a recognized postsecondary institution which offers a program in natural resource law enforcement.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a natural resource law enforcement environment that required the wearing of a pistol and resulted in the completion of investigation and resulted in the imposition of penalties or sanctions.
  • Completion of the Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy (WCLEA) or equivalent academy training in natural resource law enforcement. An equivalent combination of education and related experience in law enforcement where the wearing of a pistol was required may be considered.

Willingness Statements; applicants must:

  • Hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.
  • Have successfully completed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
  • Have successfully completed the BC Conservation Outdoor Recreation and Education Course (CORE) or equivalent.
  • Have successfully completed and possess current Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent training.
  • Hold a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.
  • Be fully operational and able to carry out the duties of an armed Conservation Officer.

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be located in Squamish or Mission.
A provincial eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
