Men's Family Violence Counsellor 1.0 EFT (term till April 2024)
***: The Men's Family Violence Counselling Services at NorWest provides confidential

counseling services and support to individuals whose lives have been impacted

by intimate partner violence. This role provides individual and group counselling

to individuals who have engaged in and/or have been recipients of abusive

behavior in an intimate relationship.

  • Support in the following areas:
  • Domestic Violence
  • Trauma and abuse
  • Protection orders and safety planning
  • Therapy and support groups

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor of Social Work degree required, graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum two years counselling experience with domestic violence
  • Knowledge of Domestic Violence
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse cultural groups
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrated decision making abilities
  • Demonstrated competence in risk and clinical assessment
  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, issues of cultural diversity
  • Ability to work with in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
if required

  • Extensive knowledge of community resources in order to make
appropriate referrals.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct intake and triage clients to support workers
  • Triage calls to family violence counselors and the onsite legal counsel.
  • Provide support, information, and referrals to appropriate community
resources

  • Provide individual and group counselling to individuals who have
experienced domestic violence and / or trauma in their home country

  • Access Interpreter Services when necessary
  • Participate in community development activities related to client needs
  • Provide clinical assessments and safety planning
  • Maintain accurate, up to date client records as per NorWest Coop
documentation policy.
