JOB PURPOSE


United Way British Columbia is seeking a driven and dynamic person to fill the full-time position of
Engagement Assistant, Hi Neighbour Program in the Abbotsford area.

The Engagement Assistant, Hi Neighbour Program will assist with projects and events within the Community Investment department that engage residents, partner agencies, organizations, and local government to collaborate together to build healthy, caring, inclusive communities.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


This position will provide valuable and direct work experience and network connections for an emerging young professional in the fields of community engagement and socio-economic development.


  • Assist with Hi Neighbour community engagement and events, including support in resource development, marketing and administration as required.
  • Provide event day logistics support additional Community Impact initiatives.
  • Participate in the ongoing Hi Neighbour community engagement activities and events across the Fraser Valley Hi Neighbour neighbourhoods
  • Participate in community meetings representing United Way British Columbia.
  • Support correspondence and communications from the Community Investment Department.
  • Ensure the United Way's Mission, Vision and Core Values are incorporated into everyday practice.
  • Ensure the Agency's Policies and Procedures, operating standards, WCB standards, Community Licensing regulations, risk management requirements and general safety standards are met and followed.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Interpersonal communication
- ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, motivate others and transform inspiration into action.

  • Organization and timemanagement skills ability to prioritize competing tasks, plan and organize events, and accomplish goals within a fixed timeframe.
  • Teamwork skills the desire and ability to work collaboratively towards common goals with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds and work styles, while also working independently on projects and assigned tasks.
  • Passion a personal commitment to building a better community and helping to create positive social change.
  • Class 5 driver's license.
  • Successful completion of the Agency screening process, including criminal record check.

Eligibility Requirements
This 8-week temporary full-time role is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Requirements for applicants to be eligible for this role are as follows:

You must be between 15 and 30 years of age

  • You must be either a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold Refugee Status
  • You must not have any family members working for United Way British Columbia

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 35hour work week. Typical hours are 8:304:30 Monday-Friday, though the position requires some flexibility to accommodate a variety of tasks
  • Require a driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Must have the ability to work remotely or in the office, and possibly travel within the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley Region
**This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE Local 1760, and pay rate for this role is $25.81.
