Job Description:

The Academic Success Centre offers a broad range of academic support for students.

The main services of the Centre are:
the Langara Student Success Course, Peer Supported Learning, the Learning Commons and the Langara Return to Learning Course.

The ASC is seeking an instructor for the Langara Return to Learning Course (LRTL) for the Fall semester.


Reporting to the Associate Director, Academic Success Centre, the instructor is responsible for curriculum development and delivering the course which includes monitoring student progress, responding to student inquiries, assessing and renewing curriculum.

The instructor will also review and redesign the curriculum in anticipation of changes and developments in the ASC to be implemented in the Spring 2024 semester.


Responsibilities:


  • The instructor will:
  • deliver the course in Fall 2023, in collaboration with the Counselling and redesign curriculum to ensure that the course can be delivered with available resources, for implementation in the Spring 2024 semester.
Skills and Abilities- communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with students, staff, and faculty possess an exceptional ability to foster a cooperative work environment possess excellent organizational, research, and instructional design skills be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities be knowledgeable about different cultures and integration issues demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and adaptation skills work well independently be motivated to learnEducation and Experience- Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Educational Psychology or a related discipline Two years teaching in higher education including teaching in an online environment Experience with developing academic curricula at post-secondary institutions, preferably in CanadaSound knowledge of post-secondary student transition issues and challenges Proven track record of empathetic student support practices in a post-secondary environment Demonstrated focus on student-centred learning An equivalent combination of work and educational experience may be considered

Salary Range:
Salary placement is on Langara instructors' salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
