Brief Overview:


Located in the pristine boreal forest of Northern Saskatchewan, the Sakitawak Conservation Area Project is a Métis lead Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area (IPCA) proposal that seeks to protect habitats of vulnerable species by promoting sustainable development practices, advance Indigenous ways of life, identify knowledge systems, and implement stewardship activities.

The project is based in Île-à-la-Crosse Saskatchewan.


The project is an agreement between the A La Baie Métis Local 21, Métis Nation -Saskatchewan, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The project's governance board, the ICS4, is composed of representatives from the Métis, the village of Île-à-la-Crosse, the fisherman's cooperative, and the N-14 trapper's association.


Under the guidance of the ICS4 governance board, the Sakitawak Program Director, and the general supervision of the MN-S Director of Environment, Métis Nation - Saskatchewan is seeking a strong team player to support the Sakitawak Métis Protected and Conserved Area program.

The Sakitawak Program Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of program deliverables and for providing support to program coordinators and specialists.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Report to the Sakitawak Program Director
  • Take direction from the ICS4 governance board as communicated to the Director.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative and effective conservation responses throughout Saskatchewan.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute community engagements and meetings to achieve program objectives.
  • Responsible for full budget takeup of the program including budgeting, expenses, variance reporting, and program compliance.
  • As an Environment Team Member, develop and set strategic goals and objectives in coordination with the Environment Team.
  • Prepare reports which may include monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on various conservation programming to various internal and Canadian government Ministries.
  • Create and review subproject documentation and coordination of service delivery to ensure compliance with funding directives and guidelines.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with environmental nongovernmental organizations, academic partners, and service providers across the province.
  • Identify and implement additional programming or projects where required and appropriate that align with the Environment team's strategic goals.
  • Work with Federal program managers to ensure delivery of key aspects of proposals.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as determined by the Sakitawak Program Director.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 35 years' experience in a management role, with oversight and responsibility for direct reports.
  • A recognized degree or diploma in or related to Business Administration, Biology, Ecology, Conservation, Environmental Engineering, Forestry, etc., is considered an asset, however, experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Advanced computer skills including knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office programs Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Prior Experience in Environmental field is considered an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Knowledge of Métis culture and northern communities
  • Demonstrated understanding of northern Saskatchewan ecology, habitat management, conservation, etc.
  • Knowledge of general office policies and procedures and with basic office equipment (i.e. fax, photocopier, digital camera, shredder, and scanner)
  • Strong timemanagement skills along with the ability to prioritize daily tasks, organizational skills, and effective decisionmaking abilities.
  • Skills in general administrative functions, including accurate typing, filing, ordering office supplies, maintaining office supplies and equipment.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills
  • Sound problem solving and decisionmaking skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in difficult situations.
  • Embrace challenges and areas of rapid growth.
  • Resiliency in dealing with changing schedules, timelines, and financial priorities.
  • Adaptive to environmental or governmental priority shifts.

Additional Requirements:


  • The position is based on a 37.5hour work week Monday through Friday and includes a comprehensive total rewards package.
  • Travel and working outside of normal business hours (including weekends) may be required 23x per month.
  • A valid Saskatchewan driver's license and access to reliable transportation would be required.
