JOB DESCRIPTION


The cook follows established policies, procedures and standards in order to assist in the preparations and service of food for the residents of the Home.

This individual prepares meals for residents during breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack times.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation and delivery of food for residents
  • Reviews menus and production sheets before preparing meals, prepares and serves them properly and attractively
  • Maintains foods at proper serving temperatures and ensures proper food handling techniques
  • Performs daily responsibilities according to proper infection control practices
  • Prepares and serves food according to planned menus and follows residents' diet and food preferences using proper portion sizes
  • Monitors quality of food supplies received and addresses any problems
  • Make substitutions as necessary and records these in designated place
  • Ensures adequate food, supply and equipment needs and orders as needed
  • Ensures proper storage and labelling of dietary supplies
  • Ensures food is prepared in served in accordance with relevant legislation and DHM guidelines
  • Oversees the dietary services department
  • Participates in the planning/preparation of special occasion and theme meal trays
  • Assists in maintaining the dietary service department in a safe and sanitary manner
  • Performs other duties assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of the Safe Food Handler course offered by Public Health Department
  • Red Seal certification is an asset
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture modifications and nutritional supplements
  • Have at minimum of three (3) years cooking experience in relevant healthcare setting
  • Knowledgeable in the Home's fire, safety, and emergency programs
  • Health and Safety Certification is an asset
  • Evidence of consistent updating of clinical skills and knowledge

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Considerable walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items
  • Able to respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Must have an updated Vulnerable Sector Screening and Criminal Records check
  • Must have COVID19 vaccination status as fully immunized
