ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

STUDENT SERVICES

Reporting to the Manager, Accessibility Services, the Assistive Technology Specialist supports low-vision and blind learners to produce alternate format materials through assessing needs, producing materials, coordinator in-house production, collaborating with external and internal stakeholders to acquire materials, developing and maintaining training resources, and distributing materials to learners.


HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Produce inhouse materials in accessible formats for lowvision and blind students.
  • Alter materials to make them accessible to lowvision and blind students.
  • Collaborate with members of the Accessibility Services team regarding the production of alternate format materials.
  • Coordinate with instructors to identify materials that need to be formatted.
  • Ensure accessible materials are delivered to students.
  • Create training documents to instruct staff on how to format material for lowvision and blind learners.
  • Coordinate the production and distribution of alternative format materials to students.
  • Coordinate publisher file requests and distribution.
  • Assist with software management including assigning and updating student licences.
  • Advocate across the college for accessibility.
  • Consult with studentfacing staff.
  • Develop knowledge and skills through participation in courses, workshops, conferences, professional development opportunities, interaction with colleagues (including colleagues from other postsecondary institutions), and independent study of current literature.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Education, Educational Technology, Assistive Technology or Disability related field preferred.
  • Experience with assistive technologies utilized by lowvision and blind learners, including screen readers.
  • Familiarity with SETT (Student, Environment, Task, Tool) assessment paradigm.
  • Experience providing accommodation services to students with disabilities, ideally in a postsecondary setting.

SALARY:
$2,047 - $2,660 biweekly ($53,230 - $69,156 annually) reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time 6-month term position with the possibility of extension and includes immediate access to vacation and our great benefits programs.
