Programs Officer:


Primary Purpose:

Research Acceleration and Strategic Initiatives (RASI), a unit of the OVPR, provides pre and post award support for grants from the individual to institutional level.

RASI works with the university research community in key initiatives such as programming to support researchers at all levels, the incubation and development of large-scale institutional research programs and infrastructure projects, assisting researchers in navigating pre and post award grant processes, and linking research and teaching in undergraduate research.

This position supports the development and implementation of RASI programs.


Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Programs Coordinator, this position is part of a cohesive, cross-unit team providing excellent, proactive service to the research community and will provide essential support to select RASI programs, projects, and operations.

A key responsibility of the Programs Officer is to support the development and coordination of a new researcher development program, using strong organizational, analytical and communication skills to coordinate events, deliver service and meet program needs.

Additionally, the incumbent will support select RASI programs (NSERC USRAs, Research Junction, PEER, and internal funding programs) requiring the ability to work flexibly as part of a team.

The position may have shifting priorities and will be expected to exercise judgement during fast-paced periods.


Knowledge of the research administration and the research funding environment is required for success in this position, along with experience building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.


Typical Duties/Accountabilities:


  • Provide support for the coordination and implementation of RASI programs (researcher development, PEER, Research Junction, internal funding programs, NSERC USRAs), including daytoday implementation of communications activities; organization of logístical details; and preparation of materials as required.
  • Working with the RASI team, provide expert feedback and services to researchers in the development of grant proposals.
  • Coordinate events and workshops, providing expert logístical planning and support for special events.
  • Support committees and working groups, including scheduling meetings, minute taking and following up on action items.
  • Prepare official correspondence and presentations, including drafting, editing and proofreading.
  • Undertake environmental scans and other research projects.
  • Support the development, payment and execution of contracts and services.
  • Exercise decisionmaking and problemsolving to ensure priorities and deadlines are met and take initiative to move beyond completion of assigned tasks to plan for future changes or requirements.
  • Maintain collaborative interactions with stakeholders through professional, prompt, and courteous communications.
  • Provide backup support to manage the Director and Associate Directors' calendars, including scheduling meetings, proactively identifying conflicts, organizing meeting materials, and coordinating travel plans. Attend as note taker if needed.
  • Provide backup office support for a full range of office operations, including ordering office materials and supplies, arranging courier services, providing support for large meetings and events, and editing and proofreading general correspondence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
An undergraduate degree in a related field. Formal training in MS Office is essential. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


Experience:
A minimum of three years' experience in an administrative role in an academic and/or research administration environment. A working knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan environment, including financial systems or research administration would be valuable assets.


Skills:


  • Excellent organizational, time management, and relationship building skills;
  • Proven ability to work in a high volume setting and manage multiple projects with competing demands and deadlines;
  • Ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail and ensure accuracy;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while also able to work independently is an asset.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with website design is an asset.

Salary:
The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $49, ,033.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
