About the Role


Under the direct supervision of the Packaging Team Leader and broad supervision of the Production Team Leader, the packaging worker will be responsible for working on the production line maintaining exceptional health and safety standards in a high-performance environment through the operation of equipment to manufacture nutritional bars.

The Packaging Worker will ensure all work performed adheres to organizational standards, policies and procedures as well as safety regulations and guidelines.

This position is labour-intensive requiring individuals to perform repetitive tasks, have manual dexterity, the ability to lift heavy items and stand/crouch/ben/reach and stoop for long periods of time.


The Afternoon Packaging Worker's duties are as follows:

Primary Duties

  • Primary activities include monitoring bars on the line for quality, recording product checks on batch record forms (manually and/or electronically), placing bars in cartons, inspecting carton fill, placing filled cartons in closing machine and general packaged good handling
  • Handling products that need to be reworked due to damaged
  • Verifying metal checks with packaging operator, if needed
  • Monitor quality of wrapper seal, appearance, and date printing and record periodic quality test results on batch record check sheets
  • Record weight checks and visual checks for quality control
  • Minimize wasted wrappers and rejected product as well as maximizing speeds to produce quality product as efficiently as possible
  • Perform general sanitation and food plant cleaning activities to ensure work area and production line maintain food safe and quality guidelines as well as prepare for the next shift
  • Regular rotation to the wash kitchen and laundry to clean production line supplies
  • Participate in packaging department line setup and line clearances
  • Operate and attend to manual and automated equipment in the production process operation
  • Use good communication line startup and line stops. This includes proper use and voice commands
  • Understand and review the product through specified production process, recognizing areas of defect and taking appropriate actions to rectify them
  • Ensure all equipment is operated according equipment manufactures instructions and safety guidelines are followed
  • Participate in educational and training opportunities applicable to the position
  • Attending to other related duties as assigned by management

Safety

  • Learn, follow and comply with all company safe work procedures, safe operating procedures and policies
  • Comply with OHS Regulation, Workers Compensation Act and Environment Canada; CFIA and FDA food safety regulations, SQF and other certification specific requirements
  • Report any unsafe conditions to their supervisor immediately
  • Participate and make recommendations in correcting unsafe conditions and the overall health and safety program
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is properly used where required
  • Report any injury to the First Aid Department immediately
  • Must ensure that all practices are conducted in a food safe manner and any food safety issues must be brought to Quality Assurance or Senior Management
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and designated organizational as well as provincial and federal safety guidelines

About You

  • Previous production work considered an asset
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for food and manufacturing, quality, production, sanitation, and principles of safe food handling required
  • Willing and able to follow specific instructions
  • Ability to use basic power tools require
