  • The Position
  • The _Community & Service / CAS Coordinator_ is allocated 5 hours per 9day cycle and reports to the
Director of Academics but works closely with the Senior School & IB DP Coordinator and the Associate
Director of Student Life.

  • The start date is August 2023 for a oneyear term (replacement contract
  • August 2023 to end of June
2024).
We are looking for a faculty member or staff who will inspire students to grow as learners beyond the
classroom. This person will guide students to seek challenges, take risks and reflect on how they can
make a difference in the BCS community

The _Community & Service / CAS Coordinator _will play a key role in optimizing the BCS culture by valuing
student agency, leadership, and character. The Coordinator will lead the development of the BCS holistic
program in both the Middle School (experiential learning) and the Senior School (Creativity, Activity,
Service) by coordinating and promoting service-learning activities or trips as well as extra-curricular
activities (e.g. clubs).

The_ Community & Service / CAS Coordinator_ is knowledgeable about the role and the elements of CAS in
the Diploma Programme and its benefits for BCS students. This nominated member of faculty facilitates
understanding of community service, experiential learning and aspects of CAS, and oversees the effective
implementation of opportunities in the BCS and local communities. This person will be acknowledged and
recognized as a pedagogical leader within the school community.

The _Community & Service / CAS Coordinator_ has two specific areas of responsibility:
Implements and advances the experiential & CAS programmes to:

  • familiarize students and colleagues with its holistic nature.

COMMUNITY & SERVICE/CAS COORDINATOR
- identify safety issues (risk assessment and child protection).
- manage CAS records and reports (mostly for Form 7/G12).
- periodically engage in interviews with students.
- periodically report on student progress to school and parents (mostly for Form 7/G12).
- promote, publicize, and celebrate student achievements (e.g. display board, newsletters).
- inform and work with activity supervisors/coaches where appropriate.
- develop long-term relationships with communities to develop opportunities for students.
- coordinate and develop a sustainable holistic program that includes service opportunities,
- clubs, and other creative or active experiences.- work with teachers to embed the community service and IB philosophy into the classroom.

Works directly with the students individually or in small groups to:

  • educate students on all aspects of service learning and the CAS programme
- educate students on the meaning and purpose of the (CAS) learning outcomes
- support students in understanding ethical concerns and international mindedness
- develop purposeful reflection skills through individual interviews, group discussions, and
- teaching strategies- assist students in identifying personal and group goals
- discuss goals and achievements in regular meetings
- provide students with guidance, support, and feedback on service and/or CAS experiences
- monitor the range and balance of experiences undertaken by individuals
- advise and monitor progress toward meeting the CAS learning outcomes (mostly Form

  • 7/G12) periodically review students' (CAS) portfolios
- meet each student in three formal documented interviews (mostly Form 7/G12).
