    The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) supports faculty and course instructors in their professional development as teachers, and provides consultations, resources and technology support to enhance learning in their courses and programs. CTL also enhances academic skill development both within and beyond courses through our English Language Development Support, Facilitated Study Groups, Mathematics and Statistics Learning Support, Experiential Learning, and Writing Support programs.

    Your opportunity:

    Reporting into the Senior Educational Developer, you will work directly with graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, academic departments, campus partners, faculty, librarians, other Educational Developers and staff to design, implement, and evaluate programs, resources, and initiatives aimed at fostering the success and well-being of graduate students and post-doctoral scholars. You will be collaborating with Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Educational Developers and the CTL team to support UTSC and tri-campus teaching and learning initiatives.

    Working closely with the Office of the Vice-Dean - Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of educational programs at UTSC. As Educational Developer, Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Scholars, you will ensure that your work supports the enhancement of teaching and learning outcomes, including advising instructors, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars on strategies for developing and delivering curriculum and ensuring alignment with the recommendations of UTSC's Curriculum Review Working Circle Report and Strategic Plan. The Curriculum Review was launched in the Fall of 2020 as part of UTSC's Strategic Plan with the goal of ensuring that the campus's commitment to inclusion, Indigeneity, and anti-racism is reflected across programs and embedded in pedagogical supports.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing instructional design plans for use in teaching contexts involving educational technologies (including collaborating with academic departments to integrate active learning techniques, inclusive teaching practices and assessment strategies into curriculum design)
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for assigned projects (e.g. develops instructional design plans and evaluation frameworks for use in teaching)
  • Advising instructors on strategies for developing and delivering curriculum (e.g. collaborates with faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars and staff on strategies for developing and delivering curriculum that enhances knowledge of graduate student and postdoctoral scholar achievements and methodologies)
  • Editing program and service materials (e.g. assists in revising existing resources, policies and processes related to curriculum development, teaching and learning through an equity-based and accessible lens)
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
  • Developing and implementing components of instructional programs (including delivering instructional workshops, seminars and training sessions on pedagogical best practices and educational technology tools)
  • Providing feedback to instructors on the effectiveness of their course materials (including providing individualized feedback and support to instructors to enhance their teaching effectiveness)
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists (e.g. supporting and mentoring faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in teaching dossier preparation)
  • Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, or acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent and related work experience in higher education, including experience with university-level instruction, program planning, facilitation, curriculum development, faculty development, and professional development for graduate students and/or postdoctoral scholars
  • Experience with program evaluation and assessment methodologies
  • Experience supporting and mentoring faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in teaching dossier preparation
  • Strong understanding of educational theory, pedagogy, and adult learning principles

  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge or engagement in scholarship, teaching, and learning related to theories and practices used in educational development and their application to curriculum development processes and tools and teaching and resource development
  • Evidence of engagement in regional, national, and/or international conversations about curriculum, teaching, and learning
  • Strong consultative decision-making skills, demonstrated through approachability, supportiveness, and equitable interactions with faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to successfully meet deadlines and proven project management abilities, coupled with adaptability and a commitment to building strong community relationships; capable of working independently and collaboratively within a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Must have strong computer skills, including a high degree of functionality in the use of all Microsoft Office applications
  • The incumbent must have a passion for supporting instructors of diverse backgrounds across the humanities, social sciences, science and management disciplines; sensitivity to the professional development challenges and support needs of educators at all career stages and all levels of experience
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
