Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

***- Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety, Environment and Compliance, this position is responsible for identifying and assessing Safety and Environmental issues, and continually improving performance through the development and implementation of preventative programs. You will coordinate all Safety and Environmental compliance activities including investigations, compliance, analysis, education, and training.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Reviews and actively supports all EHS investigations to ensure appropriate reporting, root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented and completed.
- Monitors and participates in guidance on current and future production activities ensuring compliance with EHS acts and regulations.
- Stays current on changes in EHS regulation and legislation to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental permits and licensing requirements.
- Ensures regular EHS inspections are taking place and follows up on action items.
- Develops and delivers EHS initiatives to continuously improve policies and programs.
- Monitors and assess occupational exposures from the various processes conducted.
- Implements and monitors elements of the waste management system, including reporting requirements of air emissions, industrial and hazardous waste disposal, chemical storage, etc.
- Supports Joint Health and Safety committees, functions, and activities.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Post-secondary education in related disciplines (engineering, engineering technology, environmental management, health and safety, etc.). A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 2 years' experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing environment required.
- Strong knowledge in EHS legislation and regulations (WHMIS, MSDS, EDS, OSHA, workplace health and safety, ANSI, CSA, etc.).
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong ability to build relationships.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Access, SharePoint, etc.
- Have or ability to obtain a valid First Aid Training Certification.
- Certification in Laser Safety (hazards, inspection, and controls) considered an asset.
- Up to 10% of travel is required in this position._
