    The Opportunity

    Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Security , this specialized position will provide leadership with technical and security expertise and help provide solutions that satisfy the security requirements. The incumbent will act as a central point of contact in the management and administration of strategic and operational functions, providing expert advice, including the design and development of standardized processes, documentation, templates, and best practices ensuring consistent execution and delivery while remaining aligned with overall corporate objectives.

    Key elements of this role include:

  • Plan, research, develop, evaluate and implement processes, policies, procedures utilized for the development of strategies and business initiatives that address the organization's requirements.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in a specialized function to develop, implement, coach and assist management staff in the administration and interpretation of corporate policies; providing advice that is appropriate, practical and consistent with relevant legislation, regulation, laws and/or industry standards.
  • Actively manage security operations within Emera - including but not limited to investigations, technological protection systems, building and asset security, contract guard force management, and crisis management.
  • Lead departmental initiatives in terms of threat management of all company assets including lockdown and bomb threat training drills, field support for company employees.
  • Provide programming support and direction for access control and incident management software.
  • Perform threat vulnerability risk assessments and follow up on appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Represent the department and prepare and deliver security presentations on a variety of physical security subject matters to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively work with various stakeholders to meet their requirements and ensure effective technologies and methodologies are implemented as required.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams and or assigned staff as required.
  • Lead and/or participate in cross-functional projects.
  • Direct and provide management support, as required, to third party subcontractors/partners and/or recruiting of key skills to be successful.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt to Emera's operating environment.
  • These skills will make you successful:

    To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminology, or other bachelor's program, or equivalent, and/or professional certification in physical security field such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) and/or;
  • 5-10 years of related security working experience.
  • Relevant experience in the appropriate use of/and or installation and maintenance of Access Control & Security (ACS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Video Analytics, and Incident Reporting software.
  • Candidates must have a continuing record of professional development.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and local building codes and safety laws.
  • Work requires travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections; nationally and internationally.
  • Able to adjust to changing workloads beyond the typical workday requirements.
  • Team player with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships internally and externally.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Able to complete assignments of limited scope & complexity as required.
  • Demonstrated use of standard security engineering methods & techniques.
