ATTENTION STUDENTS SUMMER GROUNDSKEEPER CONTRACT - 8 WEEKS
Founded in 1984, Ecuhome provides quality affordable housing and support for people who have experienced homelessness.

Our portfolio includes 58 shared houses, 4 apartment buildings, and a large historic rooming house, all located in Toronto.

Applicants must...
- be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*, and
- be legally entitled to work according the the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
- (International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.)

HOURLY RATE:
$18.00 per hour





WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (35 hours per week) X 8 Week Contract


Accountability


Reporting to the Director of Property Services, the Groundskeeper has specific responsibility for the maintenance and physical condition of the grounds of Ecuhome properties.


The Groundskeeper is responsible for ensuring that the physical conditions of Ecuhome properties are maintained to Ecuhome standards and in accordance with all municipal and provincial housing/building regulations.

The Groundskeeper is accountable to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and to Ecuhome Policies and Procedures regarding Health and Safety.


Property Maintenance

  • Responsible for maintaining the quality of Ecuhome's housing including:_
  • Assist Maintenance Staff with routine and preventive grounds keeping work at Ecuhome houses and apartment buildings
  • Ensure that the grounds, facilities and equipment are safe, clean and conform to all relevant property standards
  • Keeping our properties/grounds free of debris
  • Perform routine grounds keeping functions, including clean up, weeding, grass cutting, planting, basic tree care
  • Repair exterior building elements such as fences, gates, retaining walls
  • Safely operate equipment and tools necessary to complete tasks
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on grounds keeping equipment following training of health & safety requirements
  • Manage inventory of tools and supplies, ensuring secure and proper storage

Preventative Maintenance

  • Responsible for preventative maintenance activities including:_
  • Participating as part of the maintenance team in identifying preventative and ongoing maintenance needs related to grounds keeping
  • Making regular inspections of grounds and buildings and report any issues of concern to the Maintenance Coordinator

Health and Safety

  • Comply with in Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ecuhome's Health and Safety Policy and Procedures:_
  • Review the Section 9 Health and Safety details from Ecuhome's policy and procedures manual
  • Complete all required safety training prior to beginning work
  • Inspect tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order
  • Wear personal protective equipment when required and/or instructed to
  • Review the Ecuhome Health and Safety Bulletin Board
  • Report any incidents or accidents immediately to the Director of Property Services and complete the appropriate documentation
  • Report any potential hazards to Director of Property Services and/or to Health & Safety committee member that may cause injury or harm to an employee, tenant or visitor
  • During workplace inspections report any area of concerns to the inspectors

Other

  • Maintain courteous and professional relationships with tenants, outside contractors/labourers, neighbours and other community members
  • Document work done and to be done, as part of a detailed online work order logging system
  • Work collaboratively with other staff
  • Complete all assigned work orders as required

Qualifications

  • Some familiarity with grounds keeping, landscaping, operation of power equipment
  • Ability to attend work consistently per the required schedule
  • Ability to report on work completed on a daily basis using detailed online work order logging system
  • Ability work independently and also interact and cooperate with Ecuhome team members
  • Ability to maintain courteous and professional interactions with our tenant population where mental health and addictions challenges are present
