Under the general supervision of the Plant and Equipment Training Supervisor, the Plant and Equipment Instructor is responsible for the development of curriculum content, training materials, training modules, teaching aids and manages all aspects of development of training programs to include but not limited to: technical skills, safety requirements, management and leadership development, setting minimum comprehension/ qualification levels, written recommendations for students who do not meet the minimum qualification levels, safety and new technology in transportation operations systems and maintenance.

This individual is expected to deliver accurate, high quality training documentation within specified deadlines and timelines.

In addition, the instructor will provide training for Operations Training Branch related to new technology, new vehicles, and bus operator interface.


As the _Plant and Equipment Instructor_
you will**:

  • Design and develop curriculum, training material, training modules, teaching aids, and manage all aspects of curriculum development.
  • Train Transit Plant and Equipment employees and recertify existing staff.
  • Administer record keeping and documentation related to training.
  • Participate on committees and perform other duties as required.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • A Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education (CACE), Certificate in Adult Education (CAE) or Certificate in Program Development for Adult Learners (PDAL) or other related field is required.
  • A minimum of five years of training facilitation including curriculum design and currently enrolled in one of the above noted programs, with the ability to complete the program within 18 months will be considered.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the safe operation and maintenance of appropriate equipment including providing operational and safety instruction.
  • Experience with the development of creative and engaging training materials for an adult audience, in a variety of formats and media as well as storyboarding and user guides, organizing information in a clear and concise format.
  • Experience in delivering effective classroom and handson training.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation and safety regulations and legislation.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba safety regulations, Job Safety Analysis and related training requirements in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including experience in providing staff presentations and writing formal reports.
  • Ability to make quick sound decisions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be a team leader committed to performance management and workplace diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with frontline employees, including collaboration with other supervisors/managers, union officials and interdepartmental partners
  • Effective organizational, planning, coordinating and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with conflicting workload requirements.
  • Must have demonstrated working proficiency at a basic level with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Transit equipment is considered an asset.

Conditions of employment:


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class 2 license with Air Brake Endorsement within first six months of employment.
  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is his/her responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
