JOB SUMMARY
Ensures Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) systems comply with company policies and procedures. Implements and support OHS programs and work towards continual improvement.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES
Health & Safety:
- Ensures all safety policies, procedures and processes are in place and followed
- Reports all safety incidents and hazards promptly
Technical / Function-Specific:
- Audits and assesses the OHS programs and procedures, makes recommendations for improvement, and implements corrective actions, with a focus on incident prevention.
- Provides advise/support to plant management and staff in the identification and mitigation of hazards.
- Conducts regular plant safety inspections and reports any issues/hazards to plant management/supervisors.
- Updates Health & Safety procedures and policies.
- Develops Safe work procedures in conjunction with plant management as required.
- Conducts hazard/nearmiss and incident investigations to determine root cause.
- Advises supervisors/management regarding health and safety issues, rules, regulations and ensures that corrective action, and follow up is carried out.
- Schedules and organizes training (e.g. scissor lift, boom lift, first aid, fall protection )
- Develops, organizes and/or delivers training session on Health and Safety and other related topics.
- Maintains all compliance documentation and Health & Safety boards.
- Provides support/advisement to the Joint Health & Safety Committees.
- Undertakes/advises on Ergonomic assessments of both office and plant tasks.
- Provides Emergency response support.
- Supports WSIB claims management and facilitates early and safe return to work programs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Internal / External Customer Service:
- Works closely with all plant personnel to ensure safety standards and protocols are being implemented and audited
- Engages and communicates with all key stakeholders on a daily basis
- Delivers a high quality, responsive service to ensure health and safety actions are promptly addressed
Administration:
- Produces high standard written communications and reports
- Maintains a catalogue of health and safety best practice material and Health and safety documentation, reports, incident/accident logs, etc
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY OPERATE IN THE ROLE
Education:
- Minimum postsecondary diploma/degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene
Experience
- Experience working with/auditing documented management systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 45000, ISO 14000)
- Disability case management and/or WSIB claims management experience.
- Environmental management experience
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE ABOVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and other related legislation/standards.
- Excellent people skills and 'can do' attitude, works well with others
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written and presentation skills
- Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines.

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent
Salary:
$70,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
