GGC is seeking a dynamic Team Lead, Outdoor Experiences to lead and expand the Outdoor Experiences (OE) team at the national office.

This will include defining new opportunities and overseeing the activities to successfully research, scope and drive a plan and a team to provide outdoor opportunities for Guiding units.

This role will lead staff goal-setting, help define and coach for success, provide coaching and mentorship to staff, oversee OE Partnerships and contracts, and provide a safe, inclusive space where the team understands what success looks like and feels supported to do their best work.

The Team Lead will:


  • Oversee a team of approximately 3 OE staff and help to grow to a team as needed.
  • Research, assess and expand Ontario OE model and build relationships across national membership to find opportunities that create additional value to members, support the Theory of Change, and help to achieve the outcomes for girls in GGC.
  • Coach and oversee team as they support partnerships and members to access outdoor experiences
  • Build out and create workback plans collaboratively with member and staff input, which ultimately set out execute projects as defined by the current strategic plan.
  • Provide advice, respond to inquiries and act as first point of escalation for OE team.
  • Collaborate closely with Risk, Marketing & Communications, Learning & Engagement, Finance and IT Teams to ensure processes are easy for members to adopt.
  • Work closely with members from provincial councils to fill gaps in service and to investigate opportunities to make it easy for volunteers to give girls opportunities that will improve member satisfaction.
  • Provide regular reports to Provincial Commissioners, staff or other Council Members or Advisers as new initiatives and partnerships take shape.
  • Represent the OE team as required at departmental and inter departmental meetings or on projects to ensure OE interests are represented.
  • Work as an integrated member of the Programming, Events & Travel, and OE team, serving organizational needs as required.
  • Identify and contribute to crossdepartment collaborations for any/all projects
  • Provide day to day oversight and workplan advice to direct reports, including setting objectives, performance measurement, training and coaching, coordination of workload, cross training for coverage due to vacations and absences, and time and leave tracking.
  • Provide strong dynamic leadership that mentors, develops and guides team members.
  • Identify and coordinate team training and development requirements, which may include delivery of training.
  • Participate in quarterly goals reflection process.
  • Research and stay abreast of current trends in outdoor education and nonformal education.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of projects, initiatives and processes of Program & OE team and GGCwide that affect the OE team and provides relevant updates to direct reports
  • Implement standard work practices to ensure timely follow up that meets outlined standards for external, internal and interdepartmental communication as well as workflow process such as kickoffs, file management, meeting project deadlines.
  • Actively contribute to the short, medium, and longterm planning of the Program department and GGC's strategic plan implementation
  • Contribute to the development of the OE department budget

Qualifications

  • Experience with outdoor education programming for youth in Canada.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working in a fluid, fastpaced environment.
  • The ability to work independently, and with a team across the country.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with strong interpersonal skills, relationship building skills, resourcefulness, critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • A deep understanding of issues relating to antiracism and diversity, equity and inclusion, and an openness to supporting meaningful, positive change within the Outdoor Experiences function.
  • Indepth knowledge of GGC's Theory of Change and ON Council's OE Program
  • Knowledge of/experience with Guiding.
  • Worked in the notforprofit sector, additional asset if in a youthserving organization or an organization focused on gender equality.

  • Management experience in a nonprofit or volunteer environment
  • Experience working with a diverse population of volunteers within the nonprofit sector.
  • French language skills/fluency (and any other language spoke
