The Department of Athletics and Recreation (a division of Student Affairs) provides students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the greater community the opportunity to pursue athletic excellence and recreational activities. The mission of the department is to cultivate human potential and well-being through recreation and sport. The operating units of the department include recreation, interuniversity athletics, strength and conditioning, and sport medicine.

The Department is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and energetic individual to provide support as the Recreation Program Administrator. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Manager, Fitness and Well-being in day-to-day operations with tasks including scheduling, training, and mentoring part-time student staff. As well, the incumbent will be directly involved with gym organization, equipment maintenance, and ensuring that both the interests and safety of facility users is prioritized. Responsible for supporting with the implementation of departmental projects and activities (such as MACtivate Your Mind Body and Spirit & ADAPT "Adults with Disabilities Assisted Physical Training" programs). The Program Administrator provides expertise in equipment layout, inventory management, and as well as developing and implementing fitness programming initiatives. Assists in the day-to-day administrative operations of the department, as well as supervision on the floor of the Pulse Fitness Centre.

General Description

Responsible for supporting with the implementation of departmental projects/ activities (such as the SAFE - Student Activity and Fitness Expansion project).

Provides expertise in equipment layout, inventory management, and moving logistics, as well as developing and implementing fitness programming initiatives. Assists in the day-to-day administrative operations of the department.


Duties and Responsiblities

  • Plan, develop, schedule and implement programs and workshops.
  • Conduct client surveys and analyze results to assess client satisfaction and identify opportunities for the centre and program improvements.
  • Plan and execute moves of fitness equipment during Student Activity Fitness Expansion project.
  • Design and plan fitness equipment layout for temporary and permanent locations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fitness equipment, industry standards, and equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Oversee the scheduling of casual and student staff.
  • Write and maintain a variety of documents including, but not limited to, staff training manuals, reports, correspondence, posters and flyers.
  • Track data for program and facility use and write summary reports accordingly.
  • Develop estimates of time, resources, and budgets for various program activities and events.
  • Receive and resolve customer complaints. Escalate problems to appropriate parties.
  • Maintain and order program supplies.
  • Plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities.
  • Gather and compile information on equipment and make recommendations.
  • Demonstrate various physical activities and the use of recreational equipment.
  • Gather protocols and procedures from other programs to follow industry trends related to standards of care and programming.
  • Follow up and ensure appropriate implementation of decisions made by supervisor.
  • Resolve problems within area of responsibility, consult relevant documentation, and liaise with appropriate resource persons to obtain and provide information on a variety of diverse and administrative issues.
  • Provide policy and procedure information to others.
  • Collect, verify, and input data into a variety of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Classify, sort, and file correspondence, records, and other documents.

Supervision
No formal supervision of others is required


Qualifications

  • 2 year College Diploma
  • Requires 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Personal Training Certificate, CPR and Standard First Aid Training are requirements.
