About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU): The DSU represents the collective voice of over 18,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience.


Overview:

Under the direction of the DSU Offices Steering Committee, the Manager of the Equity and Accessibility Office (E&A Office) will lead the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity and inclusion, and accessibility initiatives which will support the DSU's commitment to creating a campus and organization that is welcoming and inclusive.

The E&A Office Manager is a management position and will assess potential barriers and develop annual goals and strategies focused on awareness, promotion and support for a multitude of marginalized communities and identities.

In carrying out the mandate of the E&A Office, the Manager will develop and supervise a team of motivated students to carry out tasks in support of the Steering Committee's approved annual goal plan.

Duties

  • Directs, guides, and monitors office parttime staff and honoraria positions.
  • Provides support to various levels of DSU governance in respect to issues surrounding equity and accessibility. In particular, the Manager, or their designate, may be asked to attend appropriate standing committee meetings, or have a dedicated seat, for the purposes of advising members.
  • Develops and implements an annual Office goal plan in relationship to the Office mandate, larger DSU mandate, and with respect to any DSU Strategic Plan.
  • Gathers, researches and analyzes topics, theory and data to do with issues impacting marginalized communities and identities;
  • Coordinates or provide support for campaigns connected to the DSU's position on social justice;
  • Manages the Office budget, including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses and monitoring accounts;
  • Ensures effective operation and facilitation of Anti-Oppressive training services.
  • Supports transition for the incoming Manager of the Equity and Accessibility Office;
  • Develops and maintains an Office guide;
  • Be responsible to the Offices Steering Committee; and
  • Perform various duties and projects in coordination with DSU Executive Officers.
  • Complete all other task as directed by their supervisor

Term:
This opportunity runs from May 2023 to April 2024. This position pays $16.55 per hour averaging between 10-12 hours a week.


Structure:
Reports directly to the Director of Research and Outreach; Reports generally to the Office Steering Committee.
