Under the General Supervision of the IT Manager - Infrastructure, the Information Systems Operational Support Analyst is responsible for the installation, configuration, and day to day operation and monitoring of information technology infrastructure.

This includes the areas of servers, network storage (SAN, NAS), disaster recovery, operating systems, software, backup and restore, virtual desktops, and other hardware/software.


Primary duties include daily monitoring, modification, testing, documentation, and problem resolution of above areas in a support role to the Information System Server and Storage Specialist.

The Information Systems Operational Support Analyst also actively participates in the Service Desk escalation process by providing resolutions to incidents, problems, service requests, and work orders as needed.


As a Information Systems Operational Support Analyst
you will:

  • Maintain server and storage hardware and software at local and remote sites, to provide an infrastructure for Winnipeg Police Service's information technology.
  • Analyze and resolve system/storage/server operational problems.
  • Research and test information technology and provides technical consultation on server and storage hardware and software.
  • Document the technical and operational environment.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • University Degree in Computer Science (or related field), or College Diploma in Business Information Technology (or related field) with demonstrated equivalent amount of experience
  • VMware ESXi and vSphere, Veeam, and Microsoft Certifications are an asset.
  • 24 months progressive work experience in information technology focused on Microsoft Server, storage systems and VMware ESXi and vSphere.
  • Experience with Windows Server operating systems, servers, storage systems/SAN, VMware ESXi and vSphere, backup software, server and software hardware, Active Directory, and associated troubleshooting techniques and problem resolution skills.
  • Experience installing, supporting, and researching servers, storage and VMware ESXi and vSphere related infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience in planning and implementing components within largescale system projects.
  • Experience with Azure and other cloudbased technologies, an asset.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, servers, storage systems/SAN, VMware ESXi and vSphere, backup software, server hardware, Active Directory, and associated troubleshooting techniques and problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze system problems and to carry out corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of firewall and networking technology, including TCP/IP addressing and port assignments.
  • Knowledge of Veeam would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of O365 would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Fiber Channel switches would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery software would be an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals under varying circumstances.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills both orally and written, in a clear concise manner.
  • Strong ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new procedures with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • No involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
  • No criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted

Conditions of employment:


  • Ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check and maintain clearance.
  • Ability to successfully complete additional training as defined by the Service.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and weekends, as required by the Service.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License
