The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students.

The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-Pass, food services, and the student health and dental plan.

SUS supports an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming.

As the official representative body of UFV students, o_ur mission is to be an inclusive community that offers high-quality, accessible programs and services.

POSITION:
SUB Lounge Assistant


Work Schedule:
Full-Time 30hrs per week (Monday to Thursday 12:00 pm-6:00 pM/Friday 10:00 am

  • 4:00 pm)

Compensation:
$19.23/hr


Reporting to:
Facilities Operations Manager


Are you a community-builder with a desire to have a positive impact on campus? The SUB Lounge Assistant will assist in maintaining an inclusive, friendly, and clean environment in the Student Union Building (SUB) at UFV Abbotsford.

The SUB Lounge is located on the second floor of the SUB Building with a pool table, jukebox, board and video games, and a small growing library.


This position supports events and programming in the SUB and SUB lounge space including setting up board games, running pool tournaments, crafts and other regular events to provide a safe, fun space for students to build community on campus.

Additionally, the SUB Lounge Assistant may assist in the setup and tear down of chairs, tables, and equipment for other events held in the bookable spaces of the SUB.

This position would suit a team player who is organized, fun-loving, and enjoys getting to know people.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the execution of Student Union initiatives events and activities;
  • Ensure the SUB Lounge remains tidy and clean;
  • Daily opening and closing of the SUB Lounge;
  • Use BaseCamp platform for daily work tasks;
  • Monitor CheckFront platform for daily reservation requests for room bookings;
  • Support to the facilities crew in weekly tasks;
  • Work with SUS Program and Services and Executives in delivering communitybased activities;
  • Provide coverage for SUB inquiries at Info Desk when required
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements outlined by WorkSafe BC and SUS protocols;
  • Other tasks as assigned, to support the daytoday functioning of SUS.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Willingness to learn and develop professional skills;
  • Experience in hosting events and building community amongst students;
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment;
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times;
  • Able to manage deadlines and plan tasks well in advance;
  • Physically able to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Superior organization and administration abilities;
  • Work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication;
  • First Aid and Food Safe skills and/or certificates will be considered an asset.

COMPENSATION:
$19.23/hr paid salary, with eligibility to participate in 6% matched RRSP contributions after completing the probationary period. Comprehensive Health & Dental benefits begin effective immediately. Paid time off includes 2 weeks of vacation (72 hours) and a winter break (typically 10 business days at the end of December).
