About the UFV Student Union Society

  • The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-ForProfit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides highquality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive._
Assistant Vice President (AVP)

Work Schedule:10 hours per week


Compensation:
$17.26 per hour


Reporting to:
SUS President

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) is a support role working alongside the President, Vice President

Internal, and Vice President External. The AVP is responsible for research into policy development and

will report their findings to the elected Executives to assist them in their advocacy and governance

goals.


Responsibilities

  • Research federal, provincial, municipal, and institutional policies in a neutral and nonpartisan manner;
  • Analyze practices and policies of other student unions to provide recommendations to the Executive Committee;
  • Compile information and present it to the Executive Committee;
  • Provide context to SUS's work regarding governance and advocacy to incoming Executives;
  • Attend meetings alongside the Executives to provide additional information during the meeting and take notes;
  • Advise the Executive Committee on governance and policy work;
  • Provide the Executive Committee and/or Board of Governors with verbal/written reports;
  • Attend meetings/events in the case of a conflict in an Executive's schedule;
  • Assist in archiving SUS files.

Qualifications and Assets

  • Familiarity with the B.C. Societies Act, SUS Bylaws and Policies, and UFV Policy;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal settings;
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the goals and vision of UFVSUS;
  • A commitment to, and a clear understanding of the mission and values of the organization;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • Act with diplomacy and exercise good judgment.

Work Conditions

  • Travel to meeting locations as required.

Locations may include, but are not limited to:

  • The Student Union Building, 33844 King Rd, Abbotsford;
  • UFV Chilliwack Campus at Canada Education Park, 45190 Caen Avenue, Chilliwack
  • Ability to attend meetings occasionally outside normal business hours;
  • Ability to access meetings via video conferencing if and when required.
