What is the opportunity?
The primary objective of the CAPEX Financial Governance role within the Capital Market Operations Group is to oversee the strategic management of capital expenditures (CAPEX) to
- Optimize resource allocation
- Drive operational efficiency, and
- Support the achievement of business objectives while ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements.
What will you do?
CAPEX Management:
- Budget Planning: Collaborate with senior management to develop CAPEX budgets aligned with strategic priorities and business goals.
- Investment Analysis: Evaluate proposed CAPEX projects based on their potential return on investment, strategic alignment, and impact on operational performance.
- Financial Oversight: Monitor CAPEX spending, tracking actual expenditures against budgeted amounts and identifying variances for timely corrective action.
- Governance Framework: Establish and maintain a robust governance framework for CAPEX management, including approval processes, controls, and reporting mechanisms.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure that all CAPEX activities adhere to internal financial policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with CAPEX projects, including financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including finance, operations, technology, and project management, to align CAPEX initiatives with business priorities and objectives.
- Performance Monitoring: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of CAPEX investments, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline CAPEX processes, enhance costeffectiveness, and improve decisionmaking through the implementation of best practices and process improvements.
- Talent Development: Develop and mentor a highperforming team responsible for CAPEX financial governance, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Relationship Management:
- In conjunction with BCS management, liaise with businesses on CM initiatives and BU initiatives that impact BCS
- Work with technology partners (QTS) to provide transparency and guidance to BCS and QTS leadership on overall CAPEX portfolio
What you need to succeed?
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Science or Math desirable
- Expertise in managing project financials for a broad portfolio $50MM+
- Proven people management & development skills; ability to work effectively in a project team environment, demonstrated facilitation and leadership skills, strong listening and interview skills.
- Good working knowledge of Capital Markets operational functions and processes.
- High Level understanding of the fundamentals of Capital Markets trading and the transaction lifecycle
- High Level understanding of RBC Capital Markets organizational structure (front office sales and trading, middle office, product control, BCS, regulatory/compliance, etc.)
- Familiarity with regional differences in operational processing within RBC Capital Markets.
- Selfmotivated, able to work independently and within a team
- Ability to prioritize, plan and execute work to meet tight deadlines
- Strong innovative, problemsolving and analytical skills; a selfstarter capable of functioning in an autonomous manner.
- Capable of building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders across the enterprise
- Provide concise and effective updates to the Director, Business Management, as well as guidance to the applicable Project Managers where applicable
