    Job Description

    The Capital Markets and Factor Investing Department (CMF) is responsible for Factor and Quantitative investments, External Managers. Its vision is to create a world class investment approach that optimizes asset class, factor exposure implementation and additive alpha strategies. CMF consists of four groups: External Portfolio Management, Systematic Strategies Group, Investment Engineering & Analytics and Strategy, Risk & Operations.

    The Investment Engineering & Analytics Group (IEA) within the CMF department focuses on the implementation and infrastructure that support various quantitative investment strategies in the global capital markets.

    We are currently recruiting an intern analyst in the IEA group for a four-month internship from September to December 2024. Candidates in an undergraduate co-op program or non-co-op program who will be graduating in April 2025 or later are eligible to apply.

    Investment Engineering & Analytics Group (IEA) Description:

    The work done will broadly include:

    Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of the existing investment data for our quant equity and quant macro investment programs
  • Source new datasets and assist in the research effort for new alpha opportunities, which may include onboarding, transforming, exploring, and analyzing new data sources
  • Improve the existing data platform and assist in the build out of our new investment data infrastructure, with the aim of enabling users to easily access and use our data in their work
  • Assist in the daily data quality activities for our quantitative investment strategies, which may include the identification, analysis, and resolution of data issues

    • Other Responsibilities

  • Partner with researchers on new alpha research projects
  • Improve our daily production process by monitoring and developing data quality checks

    • Qualifications

    Position Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will be graduating from an undergraduate program in April 2025 (or later) and is working towards a degree in a STEM or business field.
  • The team works in a dynamic and interactive environment which requires the candidate to have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exposure to one or more programming languages (Python, Pyspark, etc) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with relational database and formulating queries is desired.
  • The candidate should have an interest in finance/investment management, working with large amounts of data, and learning new technologies and toolkits.
  • The candidate should have the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Candidates must exemplify CPP Investments' guiding principles of high performance, integrity and partnership.
