Description
Burnside is currently seeking an Environmental Assessment (EA) Coordinator to join our Environmental Planning & Assessment (EPA) Group. This position will be based out of either our Barrie or Guelph office.


Role Specifics

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Working as part of a project team including Environmental Assessment coordinators, ecologists, planners, landscape architects, engineers, environmental technicians, hydrogeologists, designers and sub-consultants;
  • Providing support to consultation programs for public, municipal, regulatory agency and Indigenous community engagement;
  • Assisting with coordination, preparation and documentation of project meetings;
  • Researching and compiling planning, socioeconomic, ecological and technical information;
  • Preparing draft reports related to Environmental Assessment process and environmental planning;
  • Computer entry, organization and analysis of data;
  • Coordinating permits and approvals with agency staff; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • A university degree and/or college diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Planning or other related discipline (e.g. Environmental Science or Environmental or Civil Engineering) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing an understanding of the theories and practices of environmental planning, environmental management or engineering;
  • A minimum of 3 years related work experience;
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process and public consultation principles;
  • Familiarity with the Provincial Policy Statement, Endangered Species Act;
  • Understanding of Official Plans and planning policies and processes in Ontario;
  • Ability to work variable hours, including occasional participation in evening meetings;
  • Strong communication skills, including experience writing technical documents;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with demonstrated interest to learn new systems;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time to complete multiple tasks;
  • Ability to work some off hours and participate in offsite meetings, if required;
  • Experience in Ecology, Active Transportation Planning, Transportation/Transit, Linear Infrastructure and/or First Nations engagement experience would be considered strong assets.
