Position summary

:


We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.

Reporting to the Manager, the Specialist provides leadership for the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS)

Foundational Standards in relation to COVID-19 response. The specialist supervises COVID-19 response, COVID-19 outbreak response in highest risk settings, and staff associated with the response. The Specialist promotes evidence-informed decision-making in divisions and across the organization by leading, consulting, and providing expertise in the areas of population health assessment, health equity, and effective public health practice, including:
program planning; evaluation; research, knowledge exchange, and communication; community engagement; and quality and transparency related to COVID-19.

The specialist contributes to the organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease for everyone.


Responsibilities

:


  • Leads, consults, develops, and manages assigned projects related to the OPHS Foundational Standards. In collaboration with divisions and teams, plays a leadership role in the implementation of the OPHS Foundational Standards at an organizational and division level.
  • Provides support and expertise to divisions on local, provincial, and federal issues of relevance to public health.
  • Acts as a key liaison to Knowledge and Strategic Services for organizationwide Foundational Standards work and issues impacting more than one team or division.
  • Contributes to capacity building for management and staff related to the Foundational Standards.
  • Acts as advisor to division directors on program or division specific issues.
  • Facilitates engagement of multisectoral collaborations with external partners, including, local municipalities, LHINs, public health practitioners, policy makers, health care providers, academic partners, and other appropriate organizations, stakeholders, and populations.
  • Provides support and expertise to divisions and teams in the identification, the access to, the interpretation, and the knowledge exchange of population health assessment and surveillance information for use in program planning and/or knowledge exchange with relevant stakeholders and/or the public.
  • Provides support and expertise to divisions and teams in health equity analysis, policy development and knowledge exchange.
  • Program Planning, Evaluation, and Evidence-Informed Decision-Making:
  • Promotes a culture of evidence-informed decision making across the organization and plays a key role in promoting evidence-informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Plays a key role in coordinating a systematic program planning process utilizing various sources of evidence as per the OPHS. Assists in prioritysetting.
  • Plays a key role in relevant program planning tables and groups, linking the divisionlevel Foundational Standards needs to the organizationwide Foundational Standards needs, and supporting the program divisions in obtaining the evidence required for effective program planning.
  • Leads and supports evaluations impacting more than one team or division. Leads and supports evaluations involving the community. Works with divisions and teams on the evaluation of programs.
  • Research, Knowledge Exchange, and Communication:
  • Leads and supports the identification of research priorities. Leads, supports, and participates in research in collaboration with staff, academic partners, community researchers and other appropriate organizations.
  • Leads, supports and participates in knowledge exchange activities. Facilitates lectures and/or teaches courses in postsecondary educational facilities. Promotes public health curriculum development and implementation. Provides consultation and support to students and acts as preceptor.
  • Quality and Transparency:
  • Promotes an organizational culture of quality and improvement by leading, supporting, and participating in the identification of tools, structures, processes, and priorities to measure and improve the quality of programs and services.
