Position Overview
Role Responsibilities:
- Receive, draft, and prepare court documents and pleadings for lawyer review
- Draft correspondence and records to clients
- Open and prepare new files
- Perform a variety of searches for files
- Assist with general practice including filing records, service of documents, and scheduling court dates
- Organize and maintain a diary system with lawyer for client files
- Prepare correspondence and reports
- Prepare accounts and time entry
- Maintain and file documents and associated databases
- Prepare legal account and final reporting to client
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- Possess a Legal Assistant / Paralegal Diploma
- Capable of handling a busy practice with tight timelines and priorities
- Excellent organizational skills and proactive management of tasks to successfully meet deadlines
- Knowledge of the Court of King's Bench Litigation process as it relates to foreclosures is an asset
- Knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles, and terminology
- Experience with electronic document management systems is considered an asset
- Act with discretion and good judgment in regard to confidentiality
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
- Worldox knowledge, EsiLaw / PCLaw / Acumin are considered an asset
- Excellent organization and file management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage complex workloads with high attention to detail
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Competent in written and spoken English
