IMPORTANT NOTES:

Work environment:

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is part of the Public Safety portfolio, which includes the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Parole Board of Canada (PBC).

As part of the criminal justice system, CSC contributes to the public safety of Canadians in three distinct ways: by maintaining the safe custody of offenders serving sentences two years or more; by providing programs that prepare offenders for their safe return into the community, and, by supervising and supporting offenders who are conditionally released to the community.

CSC not only works closely with traditional criminal justice partners, such as the police, courts and the Parole Board of Canada, but also with other federal organizations, such as the Department of Justice and Indigenous Services Canada.

General accountability:

The Warden is accountable for managing and overseeing institutional operations and providing overall vision and direction to the correctional programs, services and operational activities of a correctional institution within Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

CSC is a department within the Public Safety portfolio. It operates within the parameters of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act. This legislation mandates CSC to administer court-imposed sentences for offenders sentenced to a term of two years or more.

CSC contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
