Responsibilities:


Faculty Support

  • Administers the processes for recruitment of new FT/adjunct faculty under the supervision of the Chair.
  • At the beginning of each term, conducts orientation for all new contract faculty, which may include workshops on classroom management, Seneca policies and procedures, and an introduction to the School's critical dates and processes.
  • Provides leadership to faculty on topics such as classroom management, interpretation of academic policy and other inquiries.
  • Assists the Chair in daily operational functions.
  • Provides support to adjunct faculty in delivering curriculum and carrying out projects in the classrooms by determining needs, supervising, and mentoring adjunct faculty.
  • Performs classroom observation and gives faculty feedback on classroom performance.
  • Provides ongoing support and feedback, regular evaluation sessions and determines the professional development needs of those being supervised.
  • Supports the work of the Academic Integrity Committee in the School by organizing, distributing, and tracking academic integrity reports.
  • Acts as a liaison with faculty to connect them with various college support areas, such as HR, Payroll, Scheduling, Advising, Centre for Teaching and Learning, etc.

Student Support

  • Consults with staff, faculty and/or students to mitigate and resolve issues and concerns and arrive at formal or informal resolutions.
  • Acts as a resource for students in the facilitation of issues that cannot be dealt with by faculty or Academic Advisors and advises students concerning means available to address their needs including appropriate counselling services as required.
  • Chairs Academic Integrity Committees and Student Academic Appeal Committees.

Enrolment/Planning

  • Responsible for collaborating, organizing, and supporting scholarly activities such as research and interdisciplinary initiatives and other special projects initiated from the Chair's Office as required.
  • Assisting the Scheduler with adjunct faculty utilization
  • Working with the Partial Load Registry
  • Maintaining connections with program areas to inform planning.

Strategic Planning

  • Works with Faculty members and administrative leaders to discuss long term plans for the School and the Faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Chair:
  • Monitors and reports on faculty allocation, resource allocation, and projects
  • Develops new strategic and operational planning and projects.
  • Initiates and sustains ongoing, longterm strategic planning processes such as new program development and curriculum review.

Qualifications:


Education

  • A minimum completed Master's degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • TESL is considered an asset.

Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience, providing academic and administrative support/leadership within a postsecondary institution.
  • Postsecondary teaching experience is preferred.

Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with an emphasis on interpersonal, coordination, negotiation, organizational and problemsolving skills.
  • Effective and efficient verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire faculty.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
