About the role
We're looking for a Unit Manager, Personal Lines to join our Underwriting team


What you'll do here:

  • Counsel, coach and motivate your team of Underwriters, providing regular feedback as required.
  • Effectively identify and develop talent, demonstrate strong performance management within your team. Work with your peers to coordinate assessments within your team in the larger context of the department.
  • Enhance and improve employee engagement levels, both among your team and in conjunction with department and regional level activities.
  • Strong focus toward profitability and service standards, including cultivating relationships with other departments in support of profitable growth of the book.
  • Act as the unit's underwriting authority on issues related to risk pricing, selection and retention governed by the parameters described in the underwriting philosophy.
  • Underwrite complex and exceptional risks and approve risks that exceed the authority level of reporting staff.
  • Analysis of various metrics and reports with eye to making recommendations to improve the growth and profitability of the book of business, and/or to improving workflows, use of resources and department efficiencies.
  • Liaise with other unit Managers and claims management on technical and administrative issues.

Qualifications:


What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 2 years of Supervisory experience
  • Very Strong Knowledge of our Risk Sharing Pool activities, an asset
  • Proven leadership skills with a strong emphasis on motivating employees
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, and in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent analytical abilities with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • University degree or College Diploma
  • CIP or FCIP an asset
