About the role
We're looking for a Unit Manager, Personal Lines to join our Underwriting team

What you'll do here:

Counsel, coach and motivate your team of Underwriters, providing regular feedback as required.
Effectively identify and develop talent, demonstrate strong performance management within your team. Work with your peers to coordinate assessments within your team in the larger context of the department.
Enhance and improve employee engagement levels, both among your team and in conjunction with department and regional level activities.
Strong focus toward profitability and service standards, including cultivating relationships with other departments in support of profitable growth of the book.
Act as the unit's underwriting authority on issues related to risk pricing, selection and retention governed by the parameters described in the underwriting philosophy.
Underwrite complex and exceptional risks and approve risks that exceed the authority level of reporting staff.
Analysis of various metrics and reports with eye to making recommendations to improve the growth and profitability of the book of business, and/or to improving workflows, use of resources and department efficiencies.
Liaise with other unit Managers and claims management on technical and administrative issues.

Qualifications:

What you bring to the table:

Minimum 2 years of Supervisory experience
Very Strong Knowledge of our Risk Sharing Pool activities, an asset
Proven leadership skills with a strong emphasis on motivating employees
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently, and in a constantly changing environment
Ability to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions
Strong customer service orientation
Excellent analytical abilities with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
University degree or College Diploma
CIP or FCIP an asset
