Job Summary:
As the Health & Safety Officer, you will report to the Director of Operations and be responsible for the ongoing development and enhancement of the plant's Occupational Health and Safety Program.
You will work closely with the management to ensure compliance with OH&S legislation, perform inspections, investigate accidents and work-related illnesses, and support the facility in general health.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage daytoday health & safety issues and WCB claims
- Prepare and submit WCB forms, monitor claims, and act as the point of contact to WorkSafeBC
- Facilitate the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
- Develop, implement, and evaluate Health and Safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Investigate hazardous conditions and practices, ensure quality accident investigations and documentation
- Coordinate returntowork and modified duties for employees
- Maintain and update Job Safety Analysis and safe work practices
- Provide support, advice, and guidance on health and safety activities
- Produce reports and statistical information
- Assist with new employee orientation and safety training
- Facilitate monthly first aid meetings
Requirements:
- Great English writing and speaking skills to effectively communicate with team members and external parties
- 13 years of experience in policy administration and legislative compliance
- Experience in safety or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in an accredited Occupational Health and Safety certification program
- CRSP designation is an asset
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, hazard recognition, assessment, and control
- Knowledge of Return To Work and modified work programs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Proficiency with numbers and data, able to connect loss time with business revenue loss and understand the financial impact of safety incidents
- Strong administrative skills, including preparing reports, filing WCB claims, and maintaining training records, with a keen eye for detail and the patience for administrative tasks
