POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Inventory Manager, the Material Planner will be responsible for coordinating the daily purchasing requirements for their production facility.
Also works with and supports other business areas on cross-functional needs such as enabling sourcing and new material introduction, supply chain optimization, and adherence to food safety and quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
- Understand and react to requirements from Operations and Sales; order all required materials according to the planning demands and sales forecast.
- Purchase order generation and placement for all shipments of raw materials, packaging, and Operations daytoday supplies.
- Coordinate with freight carriers and customs brokers to ensure all materials arrive in a timely and costefficient manner.
- Timely follow up of orders, expedition or management of late orders or supply disruptions, and facilitation of returns.
- Determine and maintain optimal inventory levels; maintain required information such as safety stock, min/max, and lead time in the system.
- Communicate proactively with relevant teams regarding price discrepancies, quality, supply, and service.
- Support R&D in materials required for new product trials or launches.
- Support QC/QA in adhering to all food safety and regulatory guidelines and requirements.
- Maintain accurate and updated information on things like suppliers used, documentation (eg. COAs), supplier nonconformances, etc.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers while maintaining confidentiality requirements.
- Enters MO's (Manufacturing Orders). This includes data validation, discrepancy investigation and resolution as well as adjustments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of experience in a procurement and/or supply chain function.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; relevant certificate or professional designation is an asset.
- Direct working knowledge of material ordering, operations, warehouse management, inventory control, and supply chain management.
- Knowledge of computer software and systems including enterprise resource management (ERP), materials resource planning (MRP), Microsoft Office, forecasting tools, and database management; experience using SAP is an asset.
- Capability to work with internal departments, external partners, and diverse personalities in a manner that promotes positive relationships.
- Highly organized with excellent time management, priority setting, and analytical skills.
