Unit/Department Description:
The McMaster Athletics & Recreation Aquatics area provides programming for all members of the McMaster and surrounding communities including lane swims, instruction, intramurals, camps, external rental groups and aquatic leadership courses.
Job Summary
Accountabilities
- Identify pool parttime staffing needs and help to recruit for the positions.
- Plan and lead the parttime aquatics staff hiring, training and onboarding process in preparation for the running of the pool.
- Support the parttime aquatics staff in preparing and coordinating scheduling and payment of temporary staff.
- Advise on pool usage principles.
- Create staff training procedures and protocols.
- Act as the primary point of contact for outside rental groups including contract preparation, communications and payment.
- Liaise with A&R facilities staff on all bookings to ensure student use needs are being prioritized and pool usage is maximized.
- Ensure adherence to Hamilton Public Health guidelines/standards for pool operations. This includes water testing prior to activity, cleanliness, correct number of lifeguards to bather load, etc.
- Maintain the pool use schedule in A&R's facility booking system (Fusion) and flag any issues to the Manager, Facilities in a timely manner.
- Ensure highquality sport/activity experience on programme or activity including staff performance, officiating, activity instruction and equipment performance.
- Act as primary support for temporary staff and provide assistance to resolve issues relating to activity area; elevate concerns/issues, as needed
- Participate in regular Recreation Services team meetings.
- Provide a monthly activity report to the Interim Lead, Recreation Services that includes pool usage, demographics of user groups, and any identified issues/opportunities.
- Update and maintain files, correspondence and records in accordance with established guidelines.
Qualifications
Education:
College Diploma. Possess current certifications of Standard First Aid & CPR Level C and Life Saving Society National Lifeguard.
Experience: 3 months of prior lifeguarding experience
Working Conditions
- Occasional work may be conducted in hot, humid or outdoor environment with inclement weather.
