Position Overview


Under the direction of the support services manager, the laundry aide is responsible to carry out the standards of operating procedures and methods necessary to maintain a high level of cleanliness and sanitation.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintain residents' personal laundry with the utmost care and concern.
  • Use Sherwood Park's laundering procedures i.e. proper sorting of clothing, use of cycles, use of detergents for residents etc. and maintain and having ready for 3 meal services coverups
  • Work with Dietary to coordinate the washing and return of dirty mop heads, including micro fiber mop from housekeeping.
  • Folding and ironing of residents' personal clothing.
  • Sort and prepare damaged clothing that need minor sewing of rips, hems loose and button replacements, use of a small sewing machine and how to use one is preferrable.
  • Place laundry order to outside linen company of resident sheet, pillowcases, towels, face cloths rags
  • Label all residents' clothing and bring items to lost and found without labels.
  • Clean, dust, vacuum and mop equipment and floor in laundry area.
  • Participate in ongoing educational opportunities and be an active participant of the infection control team and follow infection cleaning, flu outbreak, covid, bugs etc.
  • Perform other laundry duties as required or Housekeeping job if assigned.

Skills and Knowledge

  • OHHA Front Line Worker Course Preferred (or working toward) as a requirement to have certificate for continued employment.
  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Ability to read, follow and give oral and written directions.
  • Ability to take direction, learn procedures and perform routine tasks.
  • Ability to effectively use and handle all large equipment as required.
  • Experience using and maintaining equipment necessary for the cleaning and standards of the home.
  • Time management and multitasking is required in order to do this career and be successful.
  • Experience working in a longterm care home an asset.
  • Previous experience in laundry and housekeeping preferred.

Working Conditions:


  • Stand and walk for long periods.
  • Sit for short periods.
  • Bend, stoop, and carry.
  • Push/pull wheeled equipment.
  • Transfer and lift (up to 20 kg.) in accordance with Sherwood Park Manor's transfer and lift procedures
- _Must possess and pass Police Vulnerable Sector Check and not more than 6 months old if have an existing one_
- _Must Provide 2 step Mantoux Test_
- _Work day, evening, night shifts; weekends, holidays and for call-in shifts_
