Position Type / Hours:
Full Time Permanent, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours weekly, plus overtime as required


The Payroll, Benefits and Pension Administrator is responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely payroll services, and for supporting the Officers in the provision of benefits and pension services in support of Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board's vision and mission.


Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Administer payrolls and perform calculations, completing source deductions and remittances in preparation for reconciliation and reporting.
  • Collect, calculate, enter and reconcile payroll registers and general ledger accounts with respect to professional and union dues, garnishees of wages, family support payments, remittances, etc. for Board employees and client Board(s).
  • Respond to Board and client Board staff and severed employee questions regarding payroll processes and procedures, as well as inquiries regarding benefits, pension, employment insurance, attendance, sick leave and vacation accruals.
  • Act as a resource for employees, providing guidance and direction regarding payroll, benefits and pension implications of leaves, changes in work schedule, etc.
  • Maintain and update confidential employee payroll databases, payroll program and department files, working with department staff to resolve payroll discrepancies, and with Human Resources regarding administration of new hires, terminations and other Board and client Board group payroll matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships within and outside SMCDSB (client Boards, service providers, government / Ministry representatives, union representatives and staff).
  • Monitor changes in legislation, collective agreements and related guidelines and manuals and support the Officers in the updating and maintenance of technical standards and procedural manuals.
  • Provide detailed information and reports in support of Board reporting and budget processes, and complete assigned year end reports.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the payroll functions for Board and client Board(s) are in compliance with relevant guidelines, legislation, collective agreements and negotiated settlements, Board policies and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:


  • 3 year diploma in Payroll, Benefits and/or Pension Administration, Accounting, Business administration plus up to 3 years related experience or equivalent.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation and experience in an education environment are preferred.
