  • As an Urban Forestry Business and Policy Planner, you will primarily be supporting Urban Forestry and Parks & Open Spaces staff, its Management Team and Director, and may be required to interact with Council Members, the City Manager's Office and other departments and business units.
  • Primary duties include:
  • Conduct business/strategic planning and project coordination for Urban Forestry. This includes process design, research and analysis, report writing, stakeholder facilitation and engagement, performance measure development and reporting, as well as linking plans to multiyear budgets.

Perform research/trends monitoring and analysis (for example: legislation and funding, risk assessment and mitigation, citizen perceptions and expectations, best practices reviews, citizen satisfaction surveys, and issues management).


  • Coordinate Urban Forestry input into corporate strategic initiatives and business planning processes.
  • Identify and conduct an analysis of issues related to the Urban Forestry line of service and the Parks & Open Spaces business unit(for example: issue framing, identification of alternatives, stakeholder consultation, costbenefit analysis, and formulation of options and recommendations).
  • Review and develop public policy, Bylaws and issue management strategies.
  • Build strong relationships with other business units, organizations and other levels of government, leveraging other corporate initiatives to realize goals or messaging opportunities.

Qualifications
***- A degree in Public Administration, Strategic or Urban planning, Urban Forestry or a related field.

  • At least 8 years of experience in role which involved elements of business/strategic planning consultation, research and analysis, collaborator engagement, project management, policy development, and group facilitation.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A background in communications, expertise in the development, tracking and reporting of performance measures, and a good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are strong assets for this position.
  • Strong communication skills; excellent planning, public engagement, group facilitation and organization skills; the ability to work effectively with multiple collaborators; exemplary writing skills and demonstrated tact and diplomacy when dealing with conflict.

  • Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
- work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
