Nature of the work- The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists of assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, and supervision of laboratory work, use of equipment, and open labs
Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Preparation & Organization
- Prepares the lab according to guidelines.
- Assists faculty for laboratory development and presentation of scheduled laboratories.
- Establishes a practical laboratory schedule, in collaboration with the department.
- Prepares the laboratory for activities such as Open House, Studentforaday, etc.
- Prepares and makes laboratory schedule recommendations to the department.
- Supervises clinical skill performance of the students.
- Provides feedback regarding students' to the teacher.
- Assists faculty in the supervision of students during examinations in the laboratory and classrooms.
- Informs the department chair and appropriate faculty of incidents related to professional conduct of students.
- Organizes, promotes and supervises open lab sessions.
- Schedules and performs quality control testing of lab equipment.
- Identifies equipment problems and coordinates service calls.
- Maintains an inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and places orders when needed.
- Uses purchasing software specific to Dawson College (e.g., CLARA).
- Ensures a safe work environment at all times.
- Coordinates book library update, loan policy, new entries, monthly journals, etc.
- Ensures computers are in working order, and informs appropriate personnel of issues.
- Creates and manages PACS/RIS accounts for students and faculty (training available).
- Prepares and/or coordinates the fitting of N95 masks for students.
- Provides information and followup to incoming applicants during the summer.
- Collaborates with members of the department in preparing for accreditation.
- Assists with selective college events e.g., Open House, High School visits, registration, etc.
- Attends department meetings when invited.
- Attends program meetings (e.g., of Program Committee, Advisory Committee, Clinical Instruction Committee) when invited.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
Length of the contract: 4 to 6 weeks
Requirements:
- Qualifications
- Must have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in the appropriate specialty (such as Diagnostic Imaging or Medical Ultrasound) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by a competent authority.
- Conditions
- Must be a member in good standing with l'Ordre des technologues en imagerie médicale, en radiooncologie et enélectrophysiologie médicale du Québec (OTIMROEPMQ).
- Must have knowledge of medical imaging (ultrasound and/or diagnostic imaging) in a clinical environment.
- Must have knowledge in the practical use of PACS/RIS/HIS.
- Must have advanced English communication skills and basic French oral & written skills (testing may be required).
- Must have basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills (testing may be required).
