We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated
Settlement Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.

The
Settlement Worker will support Government Assisted Refugees with meeting their basic life skill needs. The settlement worker will provide life-skill support in the community and home visit setting.

The goal is to support the integration process of newcomers and their families during their first 12 months. The settlement worker will work alongside Intensive Case Managers.

In addition, they will have meaningful interactions with GARs ensuring that they are in a safe and healthy environment and are proactively participating in the growth and development of the program and its' initiatives.

This is a
unionized, full-time, temporary position. The wage is
$22.55 per hour. The contract end date is
March 31, 2024. Hiring several positions.


Location:

Mobile in the community within Hamilton & Brantford.

**Key Responsibilities: - To promote a friendly, non-judgmental, non-discriminatory approach in every aspect of the work towards Newcomer clients (GAR), colleagues, management, and all members of the agency.

  • To carry out any reasonable duties as required such as community accompaniments, viewing mail, language support, etc.
  • To keep all information relating to clients, staff, and service users confidential, in accordance to Wesley's confidential policy.
  • To respond to GAR clients' needs, providing assistance and resources when necessary (in collaboration with the assigned ICM).
  • To provide support to GARs in the community and at home.
  • To provide information to GARs about basic life skills to integrate into life in Canada.
  • To work under a lens of integration with other Wesley programs, to ensure efficiencies are realized through evidencebased practices.
  • To maintain uptodate documentation on ETO database.
  • Must attend all team meetings and monthly supervision.
  • To seek out opportunities to represent Wesley professionally at events to enhance community networks and lines of referral.

What you will bring:


  • A College Diploma in Social Services and/or lived experience is required.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required.
  • Fluency in verbal and written communication in Arabic, Somali, Farsi/Dari an asset.
  • Strong understanding or experience of working with victims of trauma.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and coordination skills.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate Wesley's mission, vision, and values.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and highstress situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Knowledge of the settlement services and integration process and working knowledge of challenges faced by Government Assisted Refugees who are new to Canada.
  • Ability to recognize risk and take appropriate actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
