Health Programs Administrator

Location:
Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), Provincial Head Office (Edmonton, AB)


Position Status:
Full-Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent


The Organization
Within the MNA, the Department of Health is responsible for working to improve the health outcomes of Métis citizens.

One way the Department of Health achieves this is through the development and delivery of health programs that are grounded in an understanding of Métis experiences.

The work of the Health Programs Administrator will play a key role in connecting Métis Albertans with innovative programs and resources that aim to enhance health and wellness outcomes.


The Opportunity

  • Medically Necessary Accommodations Program (in affiliation with Renaissance Tower)
  • A residential accommodations program for Métis Albertans travelling to Edmonton for medical appointments.
  • Cancer Transportation Program
  • A financial reimbursement program for travel to and from cancerrelated medical appointments.
  • Financial Support Program
  • A financial reimbursement program that covers the cost of counselling sessions.
  • Opioid Wrap Around Support Program
  • A program that provides wrap around financial supports to Citizens in opioid recovery.
  • MNA Dental Programs (in partnership with the University of Alberta Faculty of Dentistry)
  • A program that offers MNA Citizens affordable dental care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine eligibility based on health program criteria.
  • Collect appropriate information and documentation for program access, including initiation of MNA citizenship registration processes, where required.
  • Calculate, track, and distribute accurate financial reimbursements based on program criteria, where required.
  • In coordination with site staff at Renaissance Tower and select hotels, organize accommodations for those wishing to access the Medically Necessary Accommodations program. This includes coordinating and booking residential checkin and checkout processes, communicating health and safety information, outlining house rules, and arranging a housekeeper to clean units after each stay.
  • Track program metrics such as the number of people accessing each program, financial reimbursements distributed, and anonymized demographic information.
  • Data entryrelated tasks using Microsoft Excel and/or Google Forms.
  • Other administrative tasks, as required, to support the growth and addition of new MNA health programs.
  • Other organizational tasks, as required.

Skills & Competencies


The Health Programs Administrator position requires a motivated and organized individual who enjoys being part of a diverse team and has a passion for Métis health.

This position requires the Health Programs Administrator to have excellent interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities to administer programs effectively.


Other competencies include:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and people.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Recognized strength in creating personable, professional relationships inperson and over the phone.
  • Culturally sensitive and compassionate.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Qualifications

  • An academic or employment background in administration and/or health is an asset.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout Alberta.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, on occasion.
