  • The Catastrophe Risk Analyst will proactively deliver critical information for risk selection, working with underwriters located in Bermuda, London, Miami, Zurich and Singapore. The Catastrophe Risk Analyst will do this by thinking critically about the submitted property exposure, the quality of the exposure, and the modeled output, building and maintaining relationships with our underwriters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Prepare policy data for use in commercially licensed property catastrophe models (e.g. AIR Worldwide & Risk Management Solutions) and proprietary models (e.g. VCAPs, VRISC, Model File Management)
  • Communicating relevant information to underwriters, senior managers and brokers, such as analysis results, exposure and loss analytics, and key drivers of risk
  • Assessing data quality/accuracy of data submissions
  • Lead projects for internal development initiatives
  • Drive efficiencies in process and creating new ways to solve challenges within the catastrophe modeling team
  • Creating reports and giving presentations to senior management
  • Assisting in model change management related activities for catastrophe model vendor updates and the Validus View of Risk
  • Thinking creatively to come up with efficient solutions to problems
  • Contributing thoughts on innovation to drive profitability of AIG Re
  • Building and maintaining underwriter, broker, client, and reinsurer relationships
  • Training junior and/or new analysts
  • All other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Working knowledge of industry catastrophe models (AIR & RMS) and MS SQL, 2 1/2+ years related work experience
  • Domain knowledge of the P&C treaty reinsurance/insurance market
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, meteorology, earth sciences, computer science, etc.)
  • Ability to work under pressure and within a team framework
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills i.e. a thorough command of the English language, including excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • The ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients and colleagues, and to exercise discretion and confidentiality in all matters
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Experience with programming languages like R or Python
  • Must be able to work outside of normal office hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays if necessary
